Adam Bfd

Originally from Normandy now residing in the country's capital, DJ and producer Adam Boufeldja (aka Adam BFD) first burst onto the scene with his distinct, emotive driven productions, making a name for himself as an artist bridging the gap between electro, breaks and house through tear-jerking melodies and cinematic euphoria.

Adam’s music represents escapism in its truest and most colorful sense; an outlet to pour his emotions into as the words begin to fail him. The characters and places Adam’s music evokes are a testament to his art - sights of emerald green fields and the smell of delicately grown flora wash over - their tangibility sitting on the tip of your senses like a bird perched on a treetop.

Adam’s world has grown and formed its very own ecosystem, feeling personal yet touching upon universal truths. In 22’ Adam’s immersive storytelling has continued to unravel, with three stand out releases on UK mainstay Lobster Theremin and an EP on Shall Not Fade’s Lost Palms label; a watershed moment in his reasonably short career. Now with his own label, Studio Goncourt, a new home to house the full spectrum of his productions.

His passion and humble demeanor have been integral to his success. Remaining open to what is and using moments as the energy to fuel his music. Whether it's producing for some of the best underground labels in the world or performing behind the booth, Adam BFD’s otherworldly and varied approach is welcomed with open arms and unmistakably his own.

Review: Shall Not Fade has reached the ripe old age of eight, a cause for celebration in these troubled times for artists and labels. To mark the occasion, the Bristol-based imprint has offered up this vast, 34-track compilation featuring new and unheard cuts from its ever-expanding family of artists. Naturally, it not only reflects Shall Not Fade's output, but also that of its various offshoots and series. So, there's plenty of high-grade deep house and immersive, breakbeat-driven deepness, but also surging, high-tempo rave-era nostalgia (see the tracks by TESTPRESS and Sheffield sorts Adelphi Music Factory), bassline (ABSOLUTE & HRSN), futurist techno (Marc Brauner), deep electro (Halo), hip-hop revivalism (Lydia Eisenbatter), progressive house and trance-influenced loveliness (MNL), and much more besides.

Review: Shall Not Fade's annual birthday compilations are always worth a look, not least because they tend to be packed with plenty of previously unreleased material from label regulars, friends and newcomers. This seventh birthday edition - the label's fifth compilation in total - is another epic, with 28 high quality tracks jostling for your attention. The track listing reflects the label's eclectic but largely dancefloor-focused approach, with highlights including the stomping big room techno darkness of Alan Fitzpatrick and Reset Robot's 'Alpha', the organ-rich New Jersey style peak-time house bump of Lis Sarocca's 'Oasis Floor', the bumpin' speed garage revivalism of 'All The Girls' by Main Phase, the warped, MC-sporting two-step wobble of Killjoy and Kwam's 'Active', and the deep and dreamy breaks/two-step fusion of 'Overcome' by Adam BFD.

Review: Next up from the Shall Not Fade crew, we see a fabulous display of futuristic dance music flavour as Adam BFD is joined by a wavy collection of various artists for his self titled unmixed project. Featuring 14 vibrant original creations from himself and his fabulous supporting cast, which features the likes of Earth Trax, Interplanetary Criminal, Shadow Child & more, alongside a wicked continuous mix version of the full tracklisting. There are some seriously innovative creations across this collection, with our ears being immediately drawn to the spacious soundscapes of 'Sonar', the euphoric backdrops of 'I've Been Waiting' and the tumultuous percussive tap dances of 'Zero-Sum Game' from Otik, which shows just how wide the range is for this wicked collection. Excellent work all around!

Review: Next up from Running Out Of Steam, we have a gorgeous collection of modernized breakbeat design as Adam BFD delivers five stunning originals, doused in creativity and unique arrangement themes from the very first whistle. We open with the glittering textures of 'Digital Tales', a constantly shifting backdrop of digitized bleeps and subtle breaksy rolls, followed by spacey percussive pops of 'Cirrus Dreamz' and even slower reesey subs and hi-hat shuffling droplets of '1st Sight' for good measure. The party then takes a more melancholy maneuver as 'Rose' lets fly a beautiful collection of synthetic harmonies, dipped in some flavoursome arpeggiator action, before 'Siniestro' has the final say with a stunning soundscape, drawing the project to a blissful, floating close. A very enjoyable collection indeed!

Review: Next up from the Distant Horizons crew, a high pressure collection from Adam BFD, who explores the euphoria of breakbeat with exceptional accuracy across these 5 rollers. We open up with the heavenly pad textures and sharpened breaks chops of 'Le Voyage', kicking us off with a fiery introduction to say the least. Next, a more mellow exploration as 'Flotus' delivers smooth sub textures and glittering arpeggios, before the clicky high end of 'I Mean It' gives us something a lot more unusual to digest. Two bangers then follow as 'Embrace' firstly delivers a crunchy display of shuffling rhythms and almost acidic melodic grooves, before the delicate yet delightful soundscaping of 'Which Gate' sits behind more shimmering breaks samples for an illuminating outro.

Review: If this five-tracker is anything to go by, Running Out of Steam label debutant Adam BFD could be an artist to watch in 2022. Like many of his generation, the Paris-based producer specialises in dreamy, ear-pleasing cuts that combine nostalgia for times past - that's code for "influenced by electronic dance music of the 1990s" - with a firm grasp of contemporary dancefloor trends. Our picks of a very strong bunch include the ultra-deep breakbeat melancholia of 'No Advice', the elongated ambient breakdowns and sun-drenched dancefloor bliss of 'I'll Be Walking' and the Korg M-1 bassline-propelled deep house roll of 'For The Good Times'.
