Review: A must have for DJs looking to get the sound of Toolroom into their mixes, House Party Vol. 6 is full of the freshest new music from some of the hottest acts right now, Boasting a huge a total of 70 tracks plus three album guest mixes by label staples Sllash & Doppe, Jaded, Paige and Nihil Young. Highlights come from: KC Lights & Leo Stannard who serve up some super soulful vocal deep house on "Cold Light", Danny Howard teams up with Eli & Fur on the glassy eyed and bittersweet euphoria of "Next To Me", the return of legend Hatiras (with Vincent Caira) on the low slung and jazzy joint "It's All Right", as well as Chicago stalwart Anthony Attalla nailing that rolling main room tech house vibe on "Don't Stop" and some slinky and hypnotic progressive house from Rauschaus and Peer Kusiv on "Mesopotamia".
Review: Glasgow Underground's contribution to the 2020 Miami sampler mountain may well induce feelings of deja vu: not only does it include multiple tracks from label boss Kevin McKay recent much-vaunted 'No Samples...' covers album, but much of the rest is in a similar vein, with McKay and a selection of musical buddies reworking a load more house classics to bring them in line with 21st Century production values. To our ears, though, it's the fresh cuts here that are the more interesting, and happily there are plenty of those on offer, too, coming from the likes of Vanilla Ace, Mirko & Maex, Reblok, Adapter, Sam Dexter and Elliot Fitch.
Review: Riva Starr's revered imprint is back with the best in tough rolling and funky tech house on the twelfth edition of Raw Cuts. From the raw jacking minimal antics of Catchment's "Overcomplete", Horatio takes his cues from the classic Robert Hood/M-Plant sound on the hypnotic "Viva La Revolucion", Wade gets into the UK tech house sound of now on the rolling "Until Dawn" and London based Italian Andrea Giudice takes the best of speed garage and Chicago acid on the rough 'n ready "My Turf".
