Review: Chinese bass music seems to be on the trend-o-meter these days, and it's labels like Beijing's Do Hits which are leading the way for the nation's new-found passion and niche. It might sounds mad, but newcomer Alex Wang debuts here with a fully-fledged LP, a 10-track collection of sonic experiments that often steer out of the bass mix and into the world of downtempo and IDM; even the opening "Thom" has about three peaks and troths before landing one something remotely bass-leaning. A curious and varied story continues throughout, thanks to a wild bunch of tunes like the sub-heavy "Play", the almost jazzy licks of "Surveillance", and something totally geared to the future in "Mirror Image". This has to be one of the bravest albums to grace our dubstep charts in a long while, and will it mark the start of a new wave of Chinese bass music? The signs are pointing to a yes..
