Alva - "The Wall" - (7:21) 124 BPM
Armless Kid - "Blank Leaf" - (4:27) 121 BPM
Mara Lakour - "Timecode" - (8:03) 123 BPM Hot
Ortella - "Digital Detox" - (6:00) 123 BPM
Review: Aix en Provence-based imprint STRCTR first tickled our fancy last year with a trio of ear-pleasing, floor-friendly EPs. Since two of those were multi-artist, compilation style affairs, it's little surprise to find that release number four is similarly structured. First up, Alva wraps jaunty, jazzy synth riffs and sun-kissed guitars around a bouncy and swinging deep house groove ("The Wall"), before Armless Kid delivers the kind of smooth and quietly soulful instrumental deep house number that could once have graced the B-side of a Prescription release. Thanks to some ear-catching acid motifs and fluid, near fluttering chords, Mara Lakour's "Timecode" has a much more futurist, deep space feel, while Ortella's "Digital Detox" wraps decidedly intergalactic, dub techno style motifs around a thumping, peak-time ready rhythm track.

Taos - "Souvenirs" - (3:51) 110 BPM
Review: Pont Neuf serve up yet more of the Parisian underground's finest sounds, with their third installment in the Habemus Paname series. Beginning with KX9000's undeniably French Touch influenced tribute "Requiem Pour Un Boogie", the zeitgeist is recaptured again on Tour-Maubourg's "Anyway You Want" which brings the funk (and the mandatory use of filter sweeps) on this emotive and soulful jam. Hot duo Alva, who served up one of 2017's standout releases with their French Kicks EP, return with more sexy late night deepness on "Louxor Funk" which calls to mind the early sounds of local hero D'Julz. Elsewhere, Cosmonection turn up the heat on "Dust In Space" which is sure to pack the dancefloor with its razor sharp Juno bassline, cosy pads and swing fuelled rhythm and, by contrast, label staple Taos delivers a nice cosmic downbeat moment to chill to in conclusion.

French Kicks
CA©cile Du Flow - (4:55) 125 BPM Hot
Pont 909 - (5:51) 124 BPM
Harry Poppers - (7:54) 127 BPM
Drumsteak - (7:23) 124 BPM
Review: ALVA are Raphael & Alexandre: a young deep house duo based in Paris who appear here for local imprint Pont Neuf. Right here are some well executed perspectives on classic styled sounds. Fittingly titled French Kicks, this EP is their second for the label and follows up the impressive grooves on the Mental Scopes EP from last year. The gutsy yet smooth charm of "Cecile Du Flow" will appeal to fans of local heroes such as DJ Steaw, Flabaire or Lazare Hoche with its evocative chords, sexy Rhodes and swing fuelled rhythms. Equally adequate for early evening mood lighting is the neon-lit pump of "Pont 909" until we are treated to two dubby and hypnotic jams were the duo really hit their stride. "Harry Poppers" with its spellbinding chord progression and the very Swiss sounding "Drumsteak" calling to the mid-noughties throwback sounds of Agnes, Quarion or Baaz.

Premier Virage
Pierre Moritz - "Fewnolder" - (6:07) 121 BPM
Alva - "Jean-Paul Groove" - (5:08) 126 BPM
Paris Groove - "Portalis" - (6:36) 124 BPM
Madcat - "Yes I Do" - (7:14) 124 BPM Hot
Review: For its first outing, freshly minted deep house label Virage has decided to put together a sampler style EP featuring cuts from members of their extended crew. Pierre Moritz kicks things off with the rubbery bottom end bounce, dreamy chord sequences, loon bird samples and cerise-hued synthesizers of "Fewnolder", before Alva doffs a cap to the likes of Nathaniel X, Ron Trent and Chez Damier on the chunky U.S deep house warmth of "Jean-Paul Groove". Elsewhere, Paris Groove reaches for the squeezable acid bass and rolling drums on peak-time bumper "Portails", while Madcat plays around with spacey synths, jacking beats and heady old school vocal samples on solid closer "Yes I Do".

Review: YouTube channel turned party brand Eton Messy has devoted much time over the last 12 months to building up its' record label. Here, it continues that approach via another periodic In:Season compilation featuring a 19-track collection of exclusive label cuts. As you'd expect, there are plenty of "future anthems" present, including the bounding heaviness of Gotsome's thoroughly filthy "Sound Suite", the dark, garage-influenced Afro-house throb of Martin Badder's "Ugulya Mandee", the acid-powered late night sleaze of Catchment's "Kornastone" and the ragged electro-house/deep house fusion of Gallago's "Left". Throw in a swathe of warmer and more melodious cuts from the likes of Howea, Alva, Grazze and Peasant, and you have a rock solid collection of contemporary club cuts.
