Review: Many happy returns to Silicone Soul's Darkroom Dubs label, which has now notched up two decades releasing music. To celebrate, they've put together this anniversary collection full to bursting not with classic cuts, but rather new and unheard music for those who like their dancefloor music dark and twisted. Fittingly, Silicone Soul kick things off with the chunky, squelchy bass-propelled early morning hedonism of 'Fahrenheit 625 (WRC Remix)', while low-slung, locked-in throb-jobs are provided by Theus Mago ('Intensify'), Undo (the acid-fired trip that is 'Vencejos') and Subcisco (the trippy, sub-heavy and wide-eyed 'Boiling Point'). There are quite a few tasty musical curveballs too, not least the Chicken Lips-on-acid flex of 'Lucky Luciano' by Am$trad Millionaire and the woozy electro-meets-EBM haziness of 'Always Almost' by Of Norway.
Review: Named after a quote from French philosopher Jean Luc-Nancy, You Don't Make a World With Simple atoms is a two-part compilation assembled by Latido in honour of the label's first birthday. This first part, which like its partner collection features new music from the label's growing roster, largely offers a cosmic and psychedelic take on electronic disco. There's plenty to admire throughout, from the new beat influenced throb of Tronik Youth's 'A New Day' and the smooth, sun-kissed Balearic nu-disco of Monoxido, Tulioxi amd Daniel Monaco's 'Walking Home Mad', to the pleasingly warped, late '90s Orbital flex of Colbertizo & Durand's electro-flecked 'Two Indians in a Club', and the surging Italo-disco/druggy synth-pop fusion of 'No Escape' by Italoconnection.
Review: Mexican dark disco purveyors Duro are back with their sixth various artists sampler featuring emerging heroes of the underground. Le Dame Noir's Arthur Johnson kicks things off with the chugging slo-mo psychedelia of "31SPCIAL", Ukrainians ID_UA and Berny go deep into the late night on the trippy and bombastic beats of "Tutta La Notte", local producer Colossio returns to the label with the majestic trance induction of "Regios" and stalwart of the Madrid scene Alvaro Cabana - he of Rotten City Records fame - delivers the EP highlight on the bouncy and low slung night moves of "Adventures Under The Dome".
