Review: Blueprint Records concludes its 2024 catalogue with a formidable collaborative effort from Vince Watson's Amorphic project and Héctor Sandoval's Tensal alias. This four-track exploration delves deep into the intricate machinery of contemporary techno, presenting a sonic narrative that's both meticulously constructed and emotionally charged. The EP unfolds like an abstract architectural blueprint, with each track representing a distinct spatial configuration of sound. Opening track 'AT1' establishes a stark, industrial environment--mechanical rhythms pulse with a cold, calculated intensity, suggesting vast, uninhabited technological landscapes. The production feels like walking through a minimalist concrete structure, where every sonic element is precisely positioned. 'AT2' introduces a more dynamic terrain, its rhythmic framework more complex and undulating. The virtual B-side reveals even deeper explorations. 'AT7' strips away excess, focusing on a hypnotic, almost meditative groove that gradually accumulates textural complexity. It's a masterful exercise in restraint, where subtle modulations create profound emotional resonance. Closing piece 'AT8' serves as a perfect denouement--a stripped-back composition that distills the EP's essence into its purest form. Minimal yet incredibly nuanced, it leaves an lingering impression of contemplative depth.
Review: On the second Morph instalment, Vince Watson's Amorphic project continues to impress. While he is best known for his musical, Detroit-influenced style, this release continues to forge a different more purist path. Razor sharp hi hats and resonating kicks guide "M015 (Part 1)" through a succession of droning soundscapes - the result comes across like Function jamming with Mike Parker. The second part of "M015" sees Watson explore a similar approach. This time, synths surge to a dramatic climax. Powered by wave upon wave of percussion and a relentless driving rhythm, it makes for a captivating, nuanced peak-time track, reaffirming Watson?s position as one of the great modern techno producers.
