Amy Dabbs

Rising star Amy Dabbs relocated from London to Berlin in pursuit of her musical ambitions just 5 years ago, and it's fair to say that lately her career has been on a steep uphill trajectory, spanning releases on Shall Not Fade, Aus Music & Heist, sets at HÖR Berlin, collaborations with the likes of Coco Bryce, and countless features on BBC Radio 1.

As the daughter of an original Northern Soul DJ, her deep rooted love of music can be heard in all of her productions, from her interpretation of classic house to her deeply emotive jungle tracks. Trusting in the mantra of doing what you love, Amy Dabbs makes and plays music she believes in, music that makes you dance and elicit an emotional response. She is a true multi-genre artist, and has become renowned for her distinguished, diverse sound, and undeniable flair both behind the booth and in the studio. She also runs her own label Dabbs Traxx, is a resident of club Renate in Berlin, and hosts a monthly show on Rinse FM.

With forthcoming releases on her own imprint, Future Classic and He.She.They, and a tour schedule that seems to get busier by the minute, Amy Dabbs has another big year ahead of her in 2024.

Review: The joy of the digital download editions of the DJ Kicks series is not so much the included DJ mix - which, of course, is invariably excellent - but the accompanying full-length, DJ friendly tracks gathered by that edition's selector, in this case Elevate Berlin record store owner (and fine producer) Cinthie Christl. Her mostly club-friendly selections are little less than superb, moving from driving, organ-and-bass-rich U.S-style house (Terrence Parker, Niles Cooper, Sandil, her own exclusive 'Organ (DJ Kicks)') and life-affirming piano-house (Ruff Stuff), to deep two-step (Camion Bazar), slamming techno-funk (Anil Aras), dusty techno (Adriyano), deep breakbeat wooziness (Ben Hauke) and deep, dreamy acid jack ('Anna Wall'). In other words, it's a blindingly good selection - and Cinthie's DJ mix is wildly entertaining, too.

Review: Lobster Theremin welcomes the return of emerging producer Amy Dabbs who follows up her Girl Like Me debut on Distant Horizons by splashing out on its parent label, Lobster Theremin. Throwing down a gauntlet of dub inspired UKG, house and R&B tracks, Amy Dabbs hits the spot with "Allure". Flirting with rave aesthetics all the more in "Second Thoughts", Dabbs keeps it instrumental, bassline heavy and close to the London broken beat scene in 'Take It" - hi-pitched vocals included - with a murky, lo-fi and computer music version of the title-track by Steel City Discs debutante Yazzus.
