Review: Chief wranglers at PETS Recordings Wojciech and Grzegorz can certainly give each other a well deserved pat on the back for a seriously prolific 2018 - and this compilation is testament to the fact. Best Of 2018 features last year's greatest hits and near misses, with highlights not limited to: the pair themselves getting a moody and woozy rework of their track "Don't" by Live At Robert Johnson's Roman Flugel, the fabulous collaboration of heavyweights Matthew Dear, Joe Goddard & Eats Everything on "Love Games", through to Jesse Perez' edit of Mathias Kaden's "NoKick" which gets the Miami booty bass treatment, and the always reliable man from Madrid named Bawrut - who gets those classic house vibes in effect on "Your Job Is My Job".
Review: Prolific producer An On Bast (real name Anna Suda) first appeared on Pets Recordings this time last year, contributing a cut to their excellent Friends of Pets compilation series. Here the Ghost Kitchen regular delivers her first full EP on Catz "n" Dogz, an ear-catching affair containing four varied cuts. Compare and contrast, for example, the low-slung, tribal-influenced late night sweatiness of Afro-tinged stomper "Para" and the wonderfully deep, acid-powered mid-tempo chug of "Life In A Hammock". Suda's penchant for rising and falling, slightly psychedelic lead lines also comes to the fore on the rolling deep house goodness of spacey closer "Sway", while the bass-heavy shimmer of wonderfully melodious opener "The Ballet Began At Eight" is the EP's most striking moment by some distance.

Review: Hailing from Poland, Catz 'N' Dogz, were probably the first Polish house act to really breakthrough internationally. Following this success, they rightly decided to develop a series hat celebrates the wealth of talent in their home country. This is the second instalment in the Friends Of Pets series and features five quality jams to enjoy. Highlights include the disco-turns-deep-synth-fest of "Shadows" by Das Komplex, the grinding acid sleaze of "Sweizy Oddech" by Seltron 400 and the low-key and moody electro vibes of Grateful's "An On Bast".
