Review: Clocking it at just under 2.5 hours long, you certainly can't fault this Rare Wiri year-end label comp on the value for money front! With 23 tracks on offer there's no room here to go into them all individually, and you probably have a pretty good idea of the label's particular electronic, 80s-leaning flavour of nu-disco anyway. Review: Fran Deeper's Spa in Disco label is now 11 years old. To celebrate, the popular nu-disco imprint has unveiled this celebratory compilation. Andy Buchan gets things going in fine style via the mid-tempo nu-disco-meets-classic-house flex of 'House Party (Disco Version)', before Chewy Rubs drops some Soundstream-esque loopy disco-house ('Feel Good Factor') and Frank Virgilo takes a similar tack on 'Never Too Late'. Review: What would you expect to hear when you stepped on an "edgy future discotheque"? That's the concept behind one of Sprechen's most popular series of multi-artist EPs, which here reaches its fifth instalment. Rising star Andy Buchan delivers a study start via the grandiose piano house/nu-disco/electro fusion of 'Body Heat', before Flash Atkins lays down a gorgeous fusion of stretched-pit piano solos, lolloping house beats and classy synth-pop sonics on 'Mistpoffer' (a cut that Daco later re-imagines as a throbbing, Patrick Cowley inspired electro-disco throb-job). Elsewhere, Mangetout's 'Body Vibrations' is a lolloping disco-funk shuffler, Jimmy Turnbull's 'Still I Rise' is funky, tech-tinged deep house workout, Ed Mahon's 'Seismic Guitar' is a weirdo electro number par excellence, and Tom2Trax's 'Heatwave Horizon (Lunar Mix)' is a big room house treat.

Review: Arriving just in time for the summer season, Hot Digits delivers a compilation that is tailor made to soundtrack lazy, hazy days. Even Funkier's "Feel So Good Inside" is an irresistible, funk-fuelled disco groove, while Ben Jamin's "Handle" inhabits a similar space. Soaked in wailing guitar and soulful vocals, it's a wonderfully infectious track. Both Andy Buchan and P-Sol raise the tempo with string-filled disco workouts, while Fray Bentos' "Danced To Death" offers a more electronic take on this sound. The compilation does veer towards house on occasion - most impressively with the subtle drum builds and chord progressions on Down Under Disco's "On My Mind". In the main though, Year Nine impresses most when it draws on disco and funk influences, such as the raucous party jam that is label owner Fingerman's collaboration with Chewy Rubs, "Block Party Bad Boy".

Review: UK label Hot Gorilla reach the terrible twos and celebrate with a 10-track compilation that's packed with fine contemporary disco, funk, soul and boogie vibes. If you're looking for highlights, then Havana Hustlers' opener rocks a b-line that somehow manages to recall both 'Lovely Day' and 'Boogie Nights', Fray Bentos makes great use of a classic Afrika Bambaataa sample on 'Stormy Nights', while Andy Buchan's 'The House That Funk Built' plunders Aretha to equally powerful effect and Solazz's 'Blaze The Party' is a boogie-tastic delight. Review: Happy eighth birthday to Hot Digits, who are celebrating their anniversary with this superb collection of contemporary disco, funk and boogie slammers. With a whopping 30 tracks to choose from there's obviously no room here to go into them all one-by-one, but with cuts ranging from the smooth jazz-funk of 'George's Groove' to the unabashed filter disco euphoria of 'Cuz I'm Naked', and from the fat-ass slap bass of 'We're Gettin' In' to cheeky Loleatta-referencing disco-houser 'Dub Sensation', there's evidence a-plenty here, should any be required, that Hot Digits do this kind of tackle better than most.

Review: No less a personage than dance music historian extraordinaire Bill Brewster is the man wearing the 'selecter' hat for this five-track V/A offering from Stretford-based Sprechen. Andy Buchan's 'Reasons' is a reworking of Ian Dury classic 'Reasons To Be Cheerful', Yum Yum Club's 'An Acid Love Feel Track' bites Donna Summer and Yootis's 'Preach' takes liberties with the Peech Boys' 'Don't Make Me Wait'; that suggests the other two cuts may also be re-edits, though if that's true we couldn't tell you what of! All the same, these are five reliable workouts that'll get contemporary disco floors shimmying for sure.

Review: Paper Disco's 'Trash The Wax' series reaches its ninth installment, meaning you've probably got some inkling as to the kind of leftfield-leaning electronic disco grooves that make up most of the album already. That's not to say there's not plenty of variety on offer, though: Dan Wainwright's Beloved-esque 'Take It Easy', for instance, is quite a long way from the rolling, jazz-tinged deep house of J Kara's 'Talk To Me', and quite a long way again from the cosmic/Italo throb of James Rod & Aleito's 'Raum 909'. Jahn Solo's 'Dance For Me' is the one cut here that could be classed as 'trad-style' - otherwise, this is an album that will please those interested in exploring contemporary disco's outer fringes.

Generally speaking it's synth-tastic grooves inspired by Italo and cosmic disco that lead the charge here - though, given the talent roster, you'd expect a certain degree of stylistic variety, and you'll find such in Buchan's rawer, more funk-leaning 'Family Kings' and the soulful vibes of The Beatbroker's 'Belong 2 Me'.

It's a successful blueprint and one religiously adhered to on Hot Digits: Year Seven, the popular imprint's latest must-check collection. There's not enough room to single out every sonic highlight, but our current favourites include the breezy boogie squelch of Ross Fitz's 'I Miss Your Love ('85 Mix)', the driving deep house haziness of Fingerman and Henri Le Blanc's 'Leave Your Cares Tonight', the neo-trance cheeriness of Picklejam's 'Endorphin Situation' and the stab-happy, peak-time house retro-futurism of 'The Feeling' by Downunder Disco.

And here Warrington lad Danny Worrall's disco and re-edits label Masterworks Music do just that, with an anniversary collection packing a whopping 50 back catalogue nuggets. You'll excuse us the full track-by-track, then, but suffice to say that this is the label that helped launch the careers of Dr Packer and Natasha Kitty Katt, both of whom feature here, and with names like Ziggy Phunk, Rayko, Alkalino, Chuggin' Edits and Fabiolous Barker also on bill, you should already have a pretty good idea what to expect. Classy stuff all round, and a great VFM package - here's to five more years!

This time round, boss man Rayko has gathered together some of the label's most potent re-edits. The quality threshold remains impressively high throughout, with highlights including James Rod's chugging and cheery disco-boogie shuffler "So Easy", the dreamy deep house throb of In Flagranti's loopy version of "Walking In The Rain", the sparkling saccharine soul/jazz-funk flex of Yam Who's revision of "In Your Eyes" and the pulsating Italo-disco/disco-funk fusion of Ziggy Phunk's take on "One Evening". Throw in a clutch of top-notch Rayko re-edits and the result is an essential collection of floor-focused reworks.

Review: The first "Masterworks Legends" compilation saw label boss Danny Worrall giving digital debuts to a whole host of previously vinyl-only cuts. We're not sure whether he's taken the same approach this time round, but the quality of the material remains pleasingly high. Beginning with Dr Packer's hot-to-trot revision of Kiu D's Blaxploitation disco workout "Dynamite", Worrall offers up a swathe of hypnotic, disco-tinged house head-nodders (Ooft's "I Am Love" being a glassy-eyed standout), tasty '80s electrofunk revisions (Woodhead, The Silver Rider, Coutel, his own '80s Child project), thumping disco club cuts (Natasha Kitty Kat, Kiu D, James Rod, Ponchartrain) and sparkling nu-disco box jams (Gradient Logic). To celebrate this landmark occasion, the man himself has selected 25 of his favourite cuts from the label's rapidly expanding back catalogue. As a showcase for everything that's good about the imprint, it does a bang up job, gleefully jogging between exotic mid-tempo disco and disco-funk (Frank Virgilio, Dr Packer, The funk District), slo-mo disco-acid (Fingerman's tremendous rework of B-Jam's "Sundog"), kaleidoscopic, reworked '80s boogie business (Casual Connection, Melon Bomb, the hard-tweaked filters and heady loop business of Chewy Rubs), tried-and-tested party-starters (Smashed Atoms, Get Down Edits remixing Stephen Richards) and giddy peak-time workouts (Shit Hot Soundsystem, Dave Gerrard, Thomas Maslo, Kiu D). Review: Thunder Jam's latest release is something of a sprawling epic; a 23-track "Invasion" featuring some of the hottest names in the re-edit and nu-disco scenes, alongside contributions from lesser-known talents. There's much to admire throughout, from the low-slung boogie bass and cut glass disco strings of Phil Da Burn's "Wallflower" and the spacey synth-funk of Funk Bank's wiggly "Jamming With The Thunder", to the bouncy disco/New Jersey garage fusion of BOI's "The Gift" and the straightened-out sunshine soul of Dee Bunk's "Little Brown Eye Girl". Throw in solid contributions from Don Dayglo, Belabouche, C Da Afro and Andy Buchan, and you've got a pleasingly varied set of floor-friendly excursions.

Review: Alkalino's Audaz imprint has become the one stop shop for some of the most exciting adventures in modern deep house and nu-disco flavours. The Portuguese expat turned Munich machine now presents the second volume in his Audaz Heroes series, serving up over a dozen surefire grooves by up and coming talent from Germany and beyond. It's all killer no filler, rest assured, but for our money we can sure bet on: Italian Daniel Puz and his slow motion disco funk as displayed on "Elisir" or "Mulholland Drive" alike; the latter having a melody reminiscent of a certain Marvin Gaye classic. Elsewhere there's British expat in Dubai Andy Buchan with the dark Italo horror of "Dylan's Dream", Brooklynites Will Buck and PTRMNTO with the sexy and pumping late night groove "Hot 4 U" and of course head honcho Alkalino who serves up several killers but we particularly liked his deep down and dirty epic "Vulture".

Review: German label Audaz has been predominantly guided by its founder and bossman, Alkalino. The nimble and versatile producer has made sure that his label encompasses the full spectrum of house sounds, and his own productions have been there to led the cause. This time, however, he acts solely as A&R man in this tight, thirteen-track compilation names Audaz Heroes. All shades of house are included here, and there's not much we don't like the sound of. From the mechanical tech-house swings of "Give A Message" by Micka Blaster, to the deeper, more esoteric harmonics of the excellent "The Way" by Trobar, and the nutty, spaced-out nu-jazz of "Groove 1" by 54th Street Hustler, this compilation is not to be underestimated. Instead of relying on your usual, perhaps more hyped labels and artists, you should do yourself a favour and check this bad boy of a comp. Tipped and recommended!"

Review: The latest missive from the Editorial camp is something of a summery treat, with a sextet of producers taking it turns to lay down warm and inviting dancefloor treats, First up is Matt Hughes, whose "Lonestar" joins the dots between eyes-closed deep house and rich, bass-heavy Balearic disco. Hotmood lays down a chunk of horn-heavy, party-hearty disco house, while Massimo Vanoni marinades a sweet, sun-kissed disco cut in several gallons of tasty rum punch. Elsewhere, Sunner Soul works the filters hard on the low-slung disco house shuffler "Good Parts", I Gemin gets all sweaty and loopy on "Disco Fevah", and Andy Buchan does a great job reinventing an 80s synth-pop cut as a saucer-eyed slab of peak-time goodness.
