Review: With releases on Intec, Rekids and Hotflush already in her catalogue, Anfisa Letyago is fast becoming one of techno's most respected new artists. As "Rhythm Tension", which features on her debut EP for Speicher demonstrates, it's not hard to understand the appeal. Based on a grainy bass and a steely rhythm, Letyago drops a looped vocal sample that keeps building as the track progresses, making for a hypnotic club track. Meanwhile, "Keep Flight" is more typical of the Speicher sound: Letyago uses a pulsating bass as the backdrop to layer frazzled synth lines, with this combination making for an irresistible slice of big room trance-techno.

Review: Hotflush unveils a diverse, dance floor-focused compilation full of original productions and high-quality remixes. Kiimi's "Breaking My Mind" and the Baltra take on label owner Scuba's "Never Forget" are vocal, dusky house tracks. Meanwhile, Truncate's take on the Hotflush owner's "Speed This MF Up" and the string-soaked "Hyperdrive" by Locked Groove both offer fine perspectives on deep techno. On "Mescalito", Nightwave drops a rolling tribal track, while underlining the diversity on offer on this compilation, Alden Tyrell's remix of TML's "Cell ID" from the 2019 Tensor release also features. It's a gnarly electro workout that sounds like it crawled from a sewer in the Hague.

Review: Back in 2009, the Kittball label decided to do something to support the work of the African Children's Choir. Since then, they've released a string of fundraising compilations featuring collaborations between the choir and DJs and producers across the world. This compilation showcases the series' greatest dancefloor hits to date, offering up percussive, bouncy and life-affirming gems that fuse elements of deep house, tech-house and Afro-house with organic African percussion and the choir's distinctive, ear-catching vocals. There's much to admire throughout, from the seriously bass-heavy bounce of Hanne & Lore's 'Bafirisuti', and the slow-building, late-night Afro-tech of 'African Blues' by Aki Bergen & Neuroxcyde, to the deep and groovy haziness of 'Omolo' by Chris Lattner and the picturesque wonder that is Larse's 'Karoo'.

Review: The latest release on Rekids sees Letyago deliver two very different propositions: on one hand there's the title track, with its tough kicks, niggling metal-plated percussion and vocal snippets; coupled with whooshing filters, it makes for a compelling big-room track. In contrast, "Pump It" offers a radically different approach; underpinned by melodic chords and brittle break beats and laced with niggling acid, it's a deep, sensuous take on techno. The label has commissioned Mark Broom to deliver two remixes of the title track; the second take resounds to razor-sharp hats, thunderous claps and a spooky organ riff, while on the first take, Broom goes deeper, with a dubbed out version that draws on the heritage of Chain Reaction.
