Review: For their latest remix compilation, Californian label Dirtybird has selected some of its standout tracks over the years that have left a special mark, tapping some of the scene's finest for their reinterpretations. Highlights include Innervisions co-head Dixon's moody, tension-filled dub mix of "Urban Animal", Chi-town legend DJ Sneak bringing his unique brand of boompty-funk to a rework of label boss Claude Vonstroke's classic "Deep Throat", as well as veteran Harry 'Choo Choo' Romero's dancefloor drama version of Scavazza's "Shake Your Hearts" and label staple J.Phlip's version of Luca Lozano's "Berlinetta" among many others.
Review: A pretty sweet, always tongue-cheek-selection of tracks that takes in all types of club forms - Dirtybirds' Campout Compilations 2021 has arrived. Keeping it real for another year is real-time Dirtybird-vibes via the minimal club bangers of E.R.N.E.S.T.O's "Not Again" and Claude VonStroke & Harry Romero's "House Stepper". Keeping on key with the glitchy-trips is Cour T.'s "Restless Thinking". More tearout experimental dancefloor numbers come from Ardalan's "Road To Campout", with some hi-hat acid classics in Arnold & Lane's "Snooooo". For your serious surreptitious burners check Dipzy's "The Means" and for some mega Miami beats it's all about "Booty" by Teknicoz & JYNX!
Review: It has been exactly a year since Iranian DJ/producer Ardalan Noghre-Kar dropped his massive 'Mr Good' LP on the always reliable Dirtybird label. Now Claude Vonstroke & Co. serve up a series of remixes from the San Francisco-based artist's debut album, with highlights coming from: Bostonians Soul Clap who get deep down and dirty on "I Can't Wait", Dirtybird alumnus Kyle Watson with a suitably wonky rendition of "Osci", Brazilian upstart Cour.T with a tough rolling and druggy perspective of "Zombie Village" and Seattle scene veteran Pezzner handing in a mesmerising version of "Orange Dreams". The album was widely admired by critics, DJs, fans and industry alike, and these remixes chase up its success perfectly.
Review: The debut album by Dirtybird staple Ardalan Noghre-Kar consists of 11 tracks with an experimental twist, said to tell the story of the San Francisco-based producer's own coming of age tale He tells a story of self-acceptance and the goal towards becoming a perfect person, by way of learning to be yourself in a society where we're forced to hide our true traits and flaws. So yes, it's pretty deep, philosophically, but musically it's as obtuse, bass heavy and as much of a hot-damn party starter that you've come to expect from Claude Vonstroke & Co! Highlights include: the razor sharp bounce n' bass of opener "I Can't Wait", the sensual late night deep house of "Osci" with L.A. songstress Claire George, plus some throwback mid '00s electro house (of the dirtiest kind) on "Mr Good" (feat Party Patty) and the boomin' afterhours vibe of minimal thriller "Strength" (feat Erica Dee).
