Review: Mexican dark disco purveyors Duro are back with their sixth various artists sampler featuring emerging heroes of the underground. Le Dame Noir's Arthur Johnson kicks things off with the chugging slo-mo psychedelia of "31SPCIAL", Ukrainians ID_UA and Berny go deep into the late night on the trippy and bombastic beats of "Tutta La Notte", local producer Colossio returns to the label with the majestic trance induction of "Regios" and stalwart of the Madrid scene Alvaro Cabana - he of Rotten City Records fame - delivers the EP highlight on the bouncy and low slung night moves of "Adventures Under The Dome".
Review: All we know about the publicity-shy Arthur Johnson is that he's from Belgium. But then that's quite key information when it comes to this four-track EP for Mexican label Duro, because the influence of his homeland's New Beat legacy can be heard quite clearly in its slo-mo chugging beats, distorted vocals and overall sleazy feel. That's not the whole story, though: there are also hints of Italo, indie and acid in there, and 'Always Up' adds a touch of Eastern flava, while Theus Mago collab 'In Control' has distinct echoes of the 'Knight Rider' theme - just not the over-used sample!
