Review: Although his music has always been blessed with an inherent soulfulness, it's only in recent years that Martin Iveson AKA Atjazz has moved more enthusiastically towards expressively soulful and vocal house. 'Home', a collaboration with effortlessly soulful vocalist Shea Soul, may well be his strongest soulful deep house outing yet. The vocal mix, which is available in extended and edit variations, is seriously seductive, with simmering strings, twinkling electric piano motifs and Shea Soul's superb lead vocal rising above a tactile deep house groove. The quality of Iveson's drum programming, music and arrangements naturally comes to the fore on the accompanying instrumental take.

Review: Given the title, and artwork that pays homage to the 'House Sound of Chicago' comps, you'd be forgiven for expecting this to be an album full of slavish recreations of late 80s acid house - but you'd be wrong. That's not to say there aren't plenty of 808/909 beats and squelchin' 303s contained herein, because there are - in places. But 'Jack-Ish' has far more to offer than simple pastiche, because there are also nods to the rave era (check the vox on 'Monster Munch'), to the speed garage days (Theo Walbeck's opener even biting Jodeci's 'Freak 'N' You', the MK mix of which helped birth the style), to Chicago's Cajual/Relief-led 'second wave' (Cuthead's 'Fuck That Shit') and more. This is a love letter, in other words, not to a brief moment 35 years ago, but to house music more generally in all its wild, wonderful jacking glory. And you need it in your life.

Review: Given that the label is now 13 years old, it's probably about time that R2 Records delivered a retrospective of sorts. As the title states, what's on offer is a collection of classics from the vaults - tried and tested dancefloor workouts that have been very popular on the soulful and deep dance music scenes at different points over the last decade-and-a-bit. Highlights are naturally plentiful, from the UK funky influenced tech-soul bounce of Karizma's own Kaytronik remix of his collaborative cover of 'Gypsy Woman' (with Nicholas Ryan Gaunt), and the sun-soaked joy of Ron Trent's Clavinet-heavy remix of N'Dambi's 'Can't Change Me', to the solo-heavy jazz-house brilliance of Rhythm of Elements' 'Tribe #3 - Tribute to Brother Aaron' and the sun-down bliss of Frankie Valentine's Latin jazz/deep house fusion gem, 'Dance The Happy Life (Dub)'.

Review: Given their respective track records - both have been serving up quality deep house for decades - you'd expect this hook up between Atjazz and Fred Everything to be high quality. It is, of course, with the original mix of 'Stay a Little While' offering a winning blend of smooth, spacey synths, delay-laden keys, Motor City-inspired electronics, undulating bass, unfussy beats and stirring, life-affirming pads. The accompanying 'Mechant Dub' is naturally a little more spaced out, with the pair prioritising the groove, bassline and mind-mangling electronics. It's a proper 4AM number, tailor-made for dark rooms and dry ice-filled dancefloors.
