Review: For her latest long player, Tokyo Dawn informs us that this Swedish-Canadian soul singer and 'first lady of modern funk", opens up wider than ever before. We'll assume they mean musically, and if so, they couldn't be more right. In a big leap from her Art Slave album, this newie sees her collaborate with a pan-international selection of artists hailing from a as far afield as Detroit and Senegal. Highlights include the bonkers stop-start romp of "Just Like Magic", the otherwordly synth-jazz of "One" and the glistening, slow (e)motion overload of "All The Funk I Need (Stray mix)".

Review: As part of his ongoing 20th anniversary celebrations, Martin "Atjazz" Iveson has put together this expanded reissue of his largely overlooked 1999 debut album, That Something. The album originally appeared on DIY Discs offshoot DIYersions, and saw Iveson combining his love of tactile, atmospheric deep house grooves with jazzy keys, and the kind of sublime synthesizer sounds he later explored more extensively on 2001 full-length Labfunk. The reissued edition naturally includes a wealth of obscure but impressive bonus material. You'll find a swathe of previously unreleased tracks recorded between 1995 and '98 - including some wonderfully baked downtempo gear - and a ton if alternate versions and remixes originally featured on long-forgotten 12" singles. That it all still sounds fantastic is testament to Iveson's impeccable production skills.

Review: The second in renowned deep houser Atjazz's Years Of The Abstract Series, "Khora" sits atop myriad genres from dubstep to Detroit. Sad synths smile meekly as a tribal polyrhythm ebbs and flows hypnotically deep in the mix, both the original and its more tech-edged remix are stunning combinations of elements that really could suit a deep house, techno, dubstep or garage set. If you've got time, look up the word Khora and understand the concept just a tad more. Clever.

Review: Deep house veteran Martin 'Atjazz' Iveson has enjoyed something of a revival in recent times. While his productions have always been reliably deep and quietly soulful, they did sometimes suffer from a lack of real dancefloor focus. That's not an accusation that can be leveled at "For Real", originally released by Innervisions in 2006 and here given the remix treatment. Iveson himself offers lovingly crafted vocal and instrumental versions, both of which offset slinky dancefloor deepness with rolling, bruk-influenced house grooves. Comfort Fit's remix hovers somewhere between late night deep house and off-kilter wonk-step, while Si Tew lays down a brilliantly melodic mix that fuses future hip-hop savvy and positivity.

Review: A storming release from a pair of deep house and nu-jazz dons who work wonders together on the "Sleep No Sweat" single. British producer Atjazz and New Zealand born Mark De Clive Lowe bring their styles together over a series of mixes, with the original club mix fusing a deep house groove with a mystical and bleary-eyed series of jazzy sound and sequences. It all hangs together on a knife edge, tensely building up to the addition of some softly played horns which in true jazz style usher in a pretty devastating key change. A perfect crossover for jazzers and deep house heads, this special release will definitely invigorate fans of either genre no end.
