Review: Rising new Norwich label Akimbo let rip with their second release, this time with young talent Aura. Two sides, one very strong and intoxicating vibe; on both 'Everything' and 'Killa', Aura goes in on a classic jump-up flex. Big broadsword gully energy and savage riffs primed to trim your whiskers. The former hits hard with pitched up vocals and a nagging Q&A that flexes across the high/low frequencies. The latter lives up to its name with an even grittier bass groove and powerful sense of attack. We love everything about this release!

Review: Strut's archival remit remains as international as ever, with their latest compilation squaring the focus on late '70s Hawaii on the delightful Aloha Got Soul: Soul AOR & Disco In Hawai'i 1979-1985. Across the backdrop of societal change on the island (statehood into America in '59 and the Vietnam War) Hawaiian youth found inspiration in the music of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and later Earth Wind & Fire leading to a truly vibrant scene by the mid-'70s. It's after this where Strut pick up the story, bringing together a glorious 16 track collection that spans the genres and suggests Hawaii to be a most fertile location for music during this era. Do take some time to check the detailed sleeve notes from Aloha Got Soul's Roger Bong which offer further context for the music!

Review: An epic release here from Breakdrum Recordings featuring a variety of breakbeat talent with plenty of original mixes and remixes. This one does what it says on the tin - celebrating the "breakbeat kings" of 2012 with bombastic aplomb. Kicking off with an Erio Donio remix of incendiary dancefloor banger "Jump Up (feat. MC Kyla), things are off to a great start. We move through the enormous album with too many tracks to mention but some stonkers from DJ Vibes, Osmo Band, Damage Breaks and Future Roots, to name but a few.
