Here we have the first fruits of a truly unusual collaboration between Italian 'Afro-Futurist beatmaker' Khalab and revered Malian musician and Griot, Baba Sissoko. Culled from their forthcoming eponymous LP, "Kumu" is a remarkable slice of haunting minimal house complete with ethereal effects, the beguiling West African vocals and what sounds like the bath left running in the background. Harmonious Theolonius provides possibly the most sensitive remix ever by gently increasing the trippiness. The beatless "Tatu" is all about plucked atmospherics, whilst the Ibibio Sound Machine's synth-funk rework relocates the tune to mid-80s Miami. Special stuff.
Italian 'Afro-Futurist beatmaker' Khalab and revered Malian musician and Griot, Baba Sissoko, combined forces last year for their eponymous LP. Such was the reaction to the record we now get some extra remixes of "Bognya" for our listening please. Clap! Clap! Opts for sublime and synth Afro-house, whilst the LV mix is all brooding bass, warped vocals and bleeps-a-go-go.
