Review: Mark Knight & Co. are straight up with their latest title - but considering their current 15th birthday celebrations, these guys can do whatever they want - they hardly do wrong anyway! House, Tech House, Techno Vol 2 does exactly what is says on the tin with a whopping 62 tracks and three continuous mixes - each dedicated to said subgenre. From that massive remix of Fatboy Slim's "Right Here, Right Now" by current scene favourites CamelPhat, Saved main man Nic Fanciulli's collaboration with Damon Albarn on "Saying" (Kolsch remix), label head honcho Knight himself steps up to deliver the pumping and white noise filled "We Get High From The Music" (feat Mr V) and the inimitable Danny Howells is always welcome - particularly with a track as electrifying as the recently released "Isolar".

Review: Mark Knight's label brings together some of the sounds that were showcased over the course of the ADE. Basement Jaxx kick start the compilation with the stomping disco house of "Never Say Never", while Harry Romero shows that he's not just a US house head. Working with Doorly, he drops "The Truth", a tough techno track, led by heavy claps. The techno influence lingers on Maceo Plex's "Conjure Superstar", which features an unusual combination of rave sirens and sublime, 808 State-style synths. As is the case in the wider electronic world, this reinvention of the past is in abundance on Amsterdam 2014 and apart from Plex's track, the most impressive contribution is Dosem's "Chase the Link", which sounds like a particularly dark version of vintage Lil Louis.

Review: Danny Tenaglia is a stone cold legend, but his profile has waned significantly over recent years. Given that it's 25 years since the release of his first production, this first contribution to the Balance series - is well timed. Pleasingly, it seems Tengalia still "has it it". Throughout the collection, the veteran NYC DJ maintains a fearsome energy level, mixing things up via a track list that spans chunky tech-house, darkroom tribal, heavily percussive fare (see Michel Cleis' dub of Basement Jaxx's "Mermaid of Salinas") and intelligent techno revivalism (Dax J's brilliant "Dreamscape" and Ho's "Deletion 3"). It is, of course, an impeccable selection, as you'd expect from a man with Tengalia's undoubted pedigree.

A kind of starter-pack for their career to date, it boasts all of their most successful and celebrated tracks, collaborations and remixes. There's much to set the pulse racing throughout - it's a 'greatest hits' collection after all - with our current favourites including the pair's sub-heavy, 21st century hip-hop revision of Chucky 73 ('Bzrp 43'), the all action, rave-igniting rush of the duo's revision of their Thomas Schumacher hook-up 'Hush', the saucer-eyed loveliness of their Bicep hook-up ('The Game'), an insanely acidic interpretation of Marlena Shaw classic 'The Ghetto', and their early, influential revision of Claude VonStroke's 'Who's Afraid of Detroit'.

Review: Here's something unexpected: a fresh spin on Basement Jaxx's nineties dance classic 'Red Alert' courtesy of bassline enthusiast turned techno-rave superstar Mella Dee. The Doncaster native offers up two distinctive interpretations. First, he adds snippets of the Jaxx track's iconic female vocals to heavyweight techno drums and insanely weighty sub-bass on the sweat-soaked 'Panel Beater Mix, before reaching for razor-sharp rave stabs, more densely programmed tribal techno drums, wonky synth-strings and radically pitched-down male vocal samples on the 'Holding On Mix'. Both are quite revolutionary revisions, but that's no bad thing; crucially, both mixes sound like guaranteed peak-time winners.

Review: Funky house anthem "Do Your Thing" by legends Basement Jaxx was taken from the British production duo's second LP Rooty, released back in 2001. It now receives a terrific modern reshape by Spanish veteran David Penn, who injects the track with more than adequate dynamics for today's dancefloors. Penn sure had his work cut out for him, given it's such a classic, but he tackled the task with great style, and respectfully too. In addition to his main remix there's a handy edit version as well.

Review: The first single to come from the BJs since their album Junto, "Rock This Road" is an emphatic Afro dynamic driven deep with harmony and that nagging buzz that lingers more and more with every listen. It lends itself really well to remixes as well as ears; highlights come from Catz N Dogz (quirky, off-kilter house flavours), Ninetoes (show-stopping breakdown and bold cowbell shimmers), More Than Gold (big dreamy synths) and the basement dub (a Classic-style Chi-town jack fest). Beyond roadworthy.

Review: These days, Basement Jaxx don't tend to release that much, meaning there's much excitement when they do periodically break cover. 'Express Yourself', which lands on their previously long-dormant Atlantic Jaxx label, is therefore big news - and their first single since January 2021's rambunctious, Yo Majesty collaboration 'Bumpin' Too Hard'. Featuring vocals from Phoebe Edwards and Nina Scarlett, it's a real blast from the past - the kind of dirty, sub-heavy, Brixton-inspired U.S house mutation that the pair used to serve up during the formative years of their career in the mid-to-late '90s. In its EP-leading 'Club Mix' form - all warped speed garage bass, bumpin' beats, diva vocals, hands-in-the-air piano riffs and basement-bothering late-night grit - it may well be the Jaxx's best single in years. A triumphant return to form!

Review: "Good Luck" was originally released back in 2004 and was used that year as the theme tune for the BBC's Euro championships coverage. Now it gets the remix treatment from the prolific Butch. The first take sees the German producer focus on the infectious chant and Lisa Kekaula's vocals that are at the heart of the original and use as a back drop a solid, steely rhythm. On the dub version, deep chords and crisp percussion are brought to the fore, with the vocal reduced to a looped snippet, while the 'Drum Tool' version goes a few steps farther. Focusing on grainy kicks, Butch drops a filtered, rolling workout.
