Belgium is ablaze with bass right now. A hugely healthy scene that's been turbo charged by planet-shaking events such as Rampage, the country has spawned a whole generation of artists who are cutting their own dark paths into the genre. Bass Smith's been swathing his path down for two years and he has the releases to prove it. "System" is proof; a stepper that gurgles with an unusual bass tone and a message every doctor can agree with: bass is good for your soul. Elsewhere we hit spine-tingling breakdown bliss on "Euphoria VIP", we get spiked out and bitter on "Dr Evil" while "Kidnap" shreds up the finale vibes with a bassline so metallic and nasty it would make Guv blush. Can't beat the system.
Bass Boost head honchos Basstripper and Bass Shock collide for a massive statement of intent to kickstart 2017. Leading from the front, both acts deliver two crucial pieces of dynamite each before collaborating for the final flex. "Swoi" is all lazers and no nonsense, "Motherfucker" is as dark as it is sweary, "Tictac" jumps and jitters with some fun harmonic funk in the riffy bassline while "Spiritual" belies its title with a frank chat with Cthulu himself. Nasty stuff. Finally we climax with "Human Perfect". A track that showcases both titans strengths with a rasping riff in the foreground and shadowy funk in the background. Boost yourself.
