Review: Next up from Touching Bass, a very vibrant album collection from the one and only Ben Hauke, jam-packed with original UK funky themes and vibrant garage energy from start to finish. The energy levels are high across the board with this one, from the carnival inspired rhythms of 'MOOOOOD' and jungle-inspired synth pops of 'ANOTHER GHOST', alongside the more UKG inspired melodic licks and catchy vocals of 'Is Still' alongside Jadasea. This album is nothing short of magic, with our standout inclusion having to of course be 'MADE TO MEASURE', a silky smooth slide through original UKG ideas, alongside the legendary vocals of Katy B. Fantastic work across the board!

Review: The joy of the digital download editions of the DJ Kicks series is not so much the included DJ mix - which, of course, is invariably excellent - but the accompanying full-length, DJ friendly tracks gathered by that edition's selector, in this case Elevate Berlin record store owner (and fine producer) Cinthie Christl. Her mostly club-friendly selections are little less than superb, moving from driving, organ-and-bass-rich U.S-style house (Terrence Parker, Niles Cooper, Sandil, her own exclusive 'Organ (DJ Kicks)') and life-affirming piano-house (Ruff Stuff), to deep two-step (Camion Bazar), slamming techno-funk (Anil Aras), dusty techno (Adriyano), deep breakbeat wooziness (Ben Hauke) and deep, dreamy acid jack ('Anna Wall'). In other words, it's a blindingly good selection - and Cinthie's DJ mix is wildly entertaining, too.

Review: Since establishing himself via a fine mini-album on Far Out Recordings - the broken beat, deep house and instrumental hip-hop flavoured Only You - in 2018, Ben Hauke has been an artist to watch. This EP for Woop sees the South East London producer in prime peak-time dancefloor mode, skipping between bumpin', late-night house haziness (the rolling and intoxicating 'NoBol', where he makes use of some suitably dewy-eyed UKG vocal samples), revivalist 1990s drum & bass sweetness ('Everywhere I Go'), tactile deep house/nu-boogie fusion (the subtly garage-tinged warmth of 'Snowday') and sweaty, extra-percussive dancefloor dubs ('Just a Dinger', which adds fuzzy vocal snippets and high register electronic melodies to a tough, non-stop beat). Quality fare, as expected.

Review: In the not too distant past, Ben Hauke's productions were compared favourably to both Theo Parrish and Madlib. Certainly, you can hear the influence of both producers in the dusty, sample-rich cuts that make up this expansive EP for Far Out Recordings. The North Londoner's attempts at smooth and sultry deep house - see "Get Up Get Down", in particular - are jazzy and slightly off-kilter, while all seven tracks come blessed with the kind of loose and swinging beats that have always been a hallmark of MPC-fuelled productions. Highlights are plentiful, from the deep and woozy Brazilian broken beats of "Bait-Leo" and "You're Too Deep", to the sultry, head-nodding warmth of "Only Old", carnival hip-hop of "Runners" and Kaidi Tatham style bruk goodness of "Digi Luv", featuring the seductive vocals of Eggrum.
