Review: London born, Ibiza dwelling DJ Ben Hoo takes up the reins for Get Physical's annual Ibiza compilation, featuring the rising stars/hit predictions for the tech house sound in summer 2018. Hoo has been a staple of the Berlin based institution in recent years, so they couldn't have found a better mascot for the label at present. His mix serves up 15 killer tracks, all available individually for your convenience. Highlights include his remix of System Of Survival 's "Kutting" (feat Vhelade) which delves deep into the exotic, the rhythmic grooviness of Spain's Clara Brea on "707Minor7" and NG Trax head honcho Nima Gorji - who appears twice with his trademark rolling/tribal tech-house of "Look Back" and "Delusion" respectively.
Review: Ben Hoo(Kindisch/Ovum/Highgrade) returns to Get Physical with a new EP featuring "Reaching" a deep and dreamy tech house cut with ethereal qualities, including an Enzo Leep remix which is more energised and slinky: it is sure to work out well on the dancefloor. We're very excited to see what Ben will do at the reigns of the next Get Physical Ibiza compilation, coming soon!
Review: Dance Spirit, aka Christopher Mohn and Reagan Denius, are the latest act to feature on a Kindisch compilation. The Get Physical sub-label has chosen to showcase the US duo's work and in so doing puts a spotlight on their range. "Piercing the Veil" is a gorgeous, reflective deep techno workout, while "Moving Shapes", a collaboration with Robbie Akbal, sees them veer towards a more foreboding, broken beat sound. In contrast again is "Anouement (Intro)", a spiky minimal workout, while on their reshape of Nick Galemore's "Redesigned", they deliver a piano-led, ghostly deep house track (albeit with a stepping undercurrent). Clearly, remixing is something that they excel at, with the pair's take on Powel's "Kalophain" conjuring up echoes of Herbert's complex minimalism. Available as separate tracks and in a continuous mix, Kindisch Stories is a great introduction to one of modern house music's most intriguing acts.
Review: Josh Wink's institution is back and giving us a massive forecast for the musical climate on The White Isle this summer and it looks like it's gonna be pretty hot! Sure enough most of this heat is coming from Ovum's current label roster and it's all good on Ovum Over Ibiza 2016. We're pretty sure that New Yorker by way of Los Angeles' MANIK's "Recourse" will be remembered beyond this year due to its slinky deepness, as will Nottingham's Dudley Strangeways with his tunnelling piece"'Keep It Clean". Delft boss Ambivalent also appears with the epic and melodic journey track "Phase Doubt" as does New York City legend Harry Romero, surprisingly, with the peak time techno monster "What What" which really packs a punch!
