Review: Liverpool lad Ben Jamin serves up five fresh re-edits of (mostly) boogie-era gems here. First under the scalpel are a couple of Gayle Adams cuts: 'Love Attraction' and 'I Can't Get Enough Of You', both from 1981 and now reinvented as 'Chain Attraction' and 'Get Enough', respectively. Next up, 'Take Your Love' finds us rewinding back a couple of years to Stargard's 'Wear It Out' from 1979 - which some may know better as Pete Heller's late 90s disco-house smash 'Big Love' - before finally we get Mr Jamin's take on Atlantic Starr's 'Circles' from 1982, which he's labelled 'Round And Round'.

Review: Five fine re-edits here courtesy of Liverpool lad Ben Jamin, whose work has previously graced the likes of Hot Gorilla, Discoholics Anonymous and Too Slow To Disco as well as Hot Digits. Womack & Womack's 'MPB (Missing Persons Bureau)' from 1988 is first to get the treatment, followed by Asha Puthli's 'Mr Moonlight' from 1971, Michael Wycoff's 'Diamond Real' from 1982, and Merry Clayton's 1971 recording of Neil Young's 'Southern Man'. The source for 'Ghetto' sadly eludes us right now, but you get the general idea: vintage soul/funk/boogie/disco nuggets given a little 2023 dancefloor polish in a pleasingly respectful and light-touch way.

Review: Arriving just in time for the summer season, Hot Digits delivers a compilation that is tailor made to soundtrack lazy, hazy days. Even Funkier's "Feel So Good Inside" is an irresistible, funk-fuelled disco groove, while Ben Jamin's "Handle" inhabits a similar space. Soaked in wailing guitar and soulful vocals, it's a wonderfully infectious track. Both Andy Buchan and P-Sol raise the tempo with string-filled disco workouts, while Fray Bentos' "Danced To Death" offers a more electronic take on this sound. The compilation does veer towards house on occasion - most impressively with the subtle drum builds and chord progressions on Down Under Disco's "On My Mind". In the main though, Year Nine impresses most when it draws on disco and funk influences, such as the raucous party jam that is label owner Fingerman's collaboration with Chewy Rubs, "Block Party Bad Boy".

Review: Act of Sedition's popular 'Perfect Pitch' compilation series returns for a third innings, this time offering up "loose grooves for lazy days". In practice, that means re-edits and light-touch reworks of laidback soul, disco and boogie gems, some with subtle new instrumental touches. There's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the locked-in, delay-laden dub disco chug of 'Olhidos Coloridos' by Ben Jamin, and the breezy, morning-fresh AOR soul of Bully Boy's 'Baltimore (Refix)', to the languid but floor-friendly rework of a stone cold classic that is Mikeandtess's 'Preacher', and the carnival-ready summer samba shuffle of 'Bossa Soul (Timmy 7's Edit)' by Sucka Productions. Throw in slightly more up-tempo contributions from heavyweights DJ Steef, Lego Edit and Frank Argrario, and you have another must-check set of reworks.

Review: Fresh from showcasing a clutch of killer reworks on the 'Too Slow To Disco Edits' series, Ben Jammin' brings his brand of slow-motion goodness to DIscoholics Anonymous Recordings. Strictly speaking, the two tracks on show aren't edits since they include additional instrumentation and production, but they are heavily based on samples from lesser-known disco cuts. 'Some People' is a pleasingly smacked-out groover, with the rising star combining pitched-down lifts from a string-laden disco gem with his own beats and a particularly wiggly acid line. 'Injection', meanwhile, is closer to a "straight" edit - albeit one boosted by fresh drums - with Ben Jamin cannily rearranging a mid-tempo disco-funk number.

Review: Scouse disco misfit Ben Jamin makes his bow on Too Slow To Disco's popular edit series, following a handful of rock-solid releases for the likes of Hot Digits, Discoholics Anonymous and Hot Gorilla. He starts in fine fashion with 'Dreams', an unashamedly groovy and loose-limbed tweak of a sweet, loved-up disco number complete with undulating bass guitar, misty-eyed lead vocals and tactile turn-of-the-80s instrumentation, before opting to rearrange a more urgent (at least energy-wise) chunk of orchestrated disco hedonism on 'I' Yours'. The Liverpool-based producer slows things down further on sub-100 BPM synth-soul number 'Conclusion', before returning to warmer and woozier pastures on the effortlessly atmospheric, bass-heavy and filter-sporting bliss of 'Moment Is Real'.

Review: Liverpool lad Benjamin Winstanley AKA Ben Jamin returns to Hot Gorilla with two mid-paced funk groovers. Whether these are original productions or re-edits isn't entirely clear, but both feature very strong female vocals with an earthy, almost country-ish feel - think Tina Turner or Ann Peebles. 'Dance' rides a swampy backbeat with a "dance to the music" chorus (nothing to do with the Sly Stone song) while 'Hold On Me' is just a touch lighter on its feet and has a chorus that says "I really gotta get a hold on me". Both will play best on floors that like their disco on the funkier side.

Review: On this eleventh instalment in the label's popular edits series, Too Slow To Disco serves up four more wide-eyed, loved-up reworks of tracks from the disco end of the yacht rock spectrum. First to don boat shoes and Ray-Bans is Ben Jamin, who expertly pitches down, subtly beefs up, deftly dubs out and cannily rearranges a France Joli gem from 1981, wisely making use of elements of both the vocal and instrumental versions. David Bay does a great job tampering with a Shalamar classic, opting to employ modern production trickery and some well-placed effects, before Saltywax delivers a thickset, mid-tempo disco-house style revision of a a string-laden epic. Finally, Mikeandtoss's 'Hold Us' is a fine tweak of an insatiably loved-up AOR disco treat.

Review: Liverpool's Ben Jamin comes to Hot Digits Music with a very fine re-edits EP. First to get the treatment is Asha Pushli's 'Space Talk' from 1976, a favourite at Mancuso's legendary The Loft, followed by Latimore's 'Let's Straighten It Out', a 1974 soul/blues jam that's since been covered by everyone from Etta James and BB King to Usher, and that here becomes 'We Can Always'. Elsewhere, 'Slip Away' draws on a 1976 Deniece Williams jam while 'Napoli' bites Mark Capanni's 1973 original version of 'I Believe In Miracles'. The source material for 'Please' has us beat, sadly, but you get the general idea!
