Review: This third volume of the Twin Turbo compilation is a timely reminder of Turbo's consistency when it comes to delivering varied dance music. The TRACE7000 remix of Jakwob's "Feel So Good" is a pulsating, acidic track, while Kill Frenzy ups the intensity levels with the swampy electronics and ghetto jack of "Follow Me". In contrast, ANNA's "Artha" is a sleek affair, its linear rhythm supporting tranced out rhythms, while on "Build Up Your House", Hoshina Anniversary delivers a modern take on Chicago jack, with repetitive vocals underpinned by a grainy rhythm. Label owner Tiga also makes an appearance, with Dense & Pika delivering a techy take on his version of Public Enemy's "Louder Than A Bomb".

Review: 2019 was a massive year for Pets Recordings with an impressive late run of releases from artists like Truncate, Mathias Kaden and Psychemagik. Belgian producer Beton opens the Polish label's 2020 account with this Dockside single, some three years after his debut opus via Pets Recordings back in 2017. Launching his own label Trek U that same year, with a release on Twin Turbo in 2018, too, Beton resurfaces with the sound of breaks and nostalgic rave in "Dockside", with its raw kick drum and liquid bass a super combi alongside playful synths and melodies. "Transmodal" on the flip looks towards old school trance and breaks again with touches of acid and cathedral atmospheres in this snare-heavy trip through the abyss.

Review: By now, we should all know what to expect from Toolroom's "Poolside Ibiza" compilation strand, namely groovy nu-disco, house and laidback Balearic beats inspired by afternoons spent lounging by the water in stonking White Isle heat. Naturally, there are plenty of gems to be found amongst the 40 unmixed tunes selected by chosen DJs Moullinex and Xinobi, from their own collaborative post-punk/dub number "X Marks The Spot", to the slick '80s synth-pop dreaminess of Tensnake's fine remix of Xinobi's "Far Away Place" and the drowsy, Morricone-influenced soundscape weirdness of Simple Symmetry's remix of Moscoman's "I Ran". Throw in some seriously good cuts from Felipe Gordon, Donald Dust, Pin Up Club and Meera (whose carnival-ready boogie jam "Fine Without You" stands out), and you have a fine collection of summery cuts.

Review: Label owner Tiga has proclaimed that mystery producer Beton's new record is the best of the last five years. Certainly, it's one of the most distinctive. Based on a dense, bass-heavy groove and eerie synths, "Directions" features the vocals of Wevie Stonder, which provide a GPS-style guide through the mean streets. The vocal narrative culminates with the audience being told to lift an object out of the car they are traveling in, at which point a wild wall of acid kicks in. "Keep Breathin'", also features some vocals, but they are buried deep in the arrangement, with acid lines and tough kicks to the fore. Both tracks are sure to turn heads whenever they are dropped.

Review: Polish expats in Berlin Catz 'N Dogz launched their Pets Recordings imprint a while back and have become an unstoppable force in the current tech house climate. They now present newcomer Beton into the fold and while not much is known about the producer as yet, we can tell by this dynamic two tracker that he is on to big things. "Bruxelles" opens proceedings with this rusty and dusted down acid jacker that will appeal to retroverts digging the current Unknown To The Unknown or Delft style sound. Second offering "Voice 64" is more uplifting and energetic with its 808 drum roils, grinding monosynth arpeggio and druggy vocals geared for some tunnelling moments on the dancefloor during the wee hours.
