Review: Bjarki follows a hectic schedule in 2023 -which included releases on his own label - with this debut for CLR. "Ping Pong Ball Gag", which the Icelandic originally self-released in 2021 as part of a pandemic project, is minimal techno at its finest. Led by a stripped back groove and dense, chain mail percussion, it features a ponderous vocal sample throughout the arrangement. Bjarki adds some subtle drops, adding to the hypnotic sensibility. Label owner Chris Liebing's remix ups the pace and fuses doubled-up claps to the lean arrangement. These elements provide the basis for the CLR boss to add in the vocal sample and maintain the hypnotic aesthetic of Bjarki's original track.

Review: Bjarki delivers a highly conceptual, dance floor friendly release on his long-time friend and collaborator ?rni's label. The title track was supposedly inspired by Bjarki's online performances during the pandemic. It features a wiry, angular rhythm that provides the backdrop for woozy, robotic vocals. "Rave Daddy" follows in a similar vein. Designed as a centre point of Bjarki's 2022 live shows, it revolves around a rolling groove and a slightly unsettling vocal interplay between a raver and her 'daddy'. Bjarki continues to defy convention with "Pano Party (Dressless)". Drawing on electro sounds for inspiration, its booming bass and swaggering rhythm provide a platform for a mysterious vocal narrative.

Review: It's time to dive into some Icelandic delights on this one as we are joined by the ever-more experimental sounds of Bjarki, a producer who is no stranger to testing out the weird and wonderful. That's exactly what he does here as he unveils his brand new 'Psychotic_Window' LP, courtesy of K7, drizzled with soundscaping brilliance and a deep understanding for electronic music in general. Across all fourteen tracks, Bjarki displays an incredible depth of sound, from the stuttered percussive clicks of 'MIRA' to the highly digitized arrangements of 'Cool You Peel2' and shiny pad work on 'Psykixk TV'. We would seriously recommend taking this one in on long play!

Review: It's not often we get a release through the gates that freaks us out as much as this one has, and in the best way possible. It's like a horror film: you're scared but awed in equal measure and the collection of sensations the medium induces within you. Bjarki has pulled it out the bag and he's done so by subverting expectations of rhythm and bass, relying not on formulaic calculations but on fluctuations, constant changes in structure that reverberate creatively in unforeseeable ways. It's hard to describe this track so you'll have to just listen to it, but trust us that it's definitely worth the time.

Review: Following his three artist LPs for Nina Kraviz' Trip label back in 2018, Bjarki delivers his fourth artist album on K7. Like his previous output, Happy Earthday focuses on his unique interpretation of the sound of 90s UK labels like Skam and Rephlex. There's the down tempo, Wagon Christ-esque beats of "Alone In Sandkassi" sitting beside the hyperactive break beats of "( . )_( . )" and the haunting, Aphex Twin-like "AN6912", while "Bheiv_sheep" sees him emulate the glitchy, hop-hop of Autechre around the time of Tri Repeate. Earthday is an occasionally brilliant ride through the golden period of UK electronic music, realised through the lens of Iceland's most eccentric producer.

Review: It's safe to say that Finland's Bjarki is one of the TRIP label's most important artists, that is, Nina Kraviz's own imprint. The techno deviant likes to dwell on his own variant of the style, often blended up with eerie ambient sonics and all things beatless, so it's always a pleasure to have him on our charts. He's actually appeating on the misanthropic bbbbbb imprint this time around, back with his predictably shape-shifting take on dance music. "Soda Sugarlicious" just about holds a groove together amid deep, eerie synth waves, while "Klobbalegt_it_" heads into AFX territories thanks to its raucous beats and free-firing use of distortion. "Drab 2" dissipates the noise into a lonesome pool of harmonies and sonic decay, whereas "2 Mewtwo 5 [GRX230P018] B-) Aprilgabb2" is difficult to decipher as it is to spell. What a banger - warmly recommended!
