Bocca Grande is a musical collaboration between Tokyo artists Kousuke Ishida and Yuka Kobayashi. Ishida has a long history with electronic music, producing since the age of 16, while Kobayashi is a classically trained pianist. As you would expect, this collaboration, previously explored on the Cray And Pinky single in 2008 bears some rich fruit, flitting between the bumping house of opener "Abend" to the downtempo hip-hop of "Below My Hands" and dusky slo-mo grooves of "Even If". It's undoubtedly Kobayashi's piano playing that steals the show however, with his upwardly spiraling melodies on "Slow Gravity", improvisational keywork on "Room In A Clutter" and jazzy tones of closer "As Adele" all contributing to what is a one-of-a-kind album.
Last year Rebirth Records celebrated a decade with the release of an acclaimed compilation selected and mixed by Larry Heard. They are now happy to present Rebirth 10 Remixed: a special collection that will feature brand new versions of some of the classics from the label in the last 10 years. The package features remixes from some of their favourite artists. Prescription Records boss Ron Trent works his magic as always on the evocative rendition of Tevo Howard and Tracey Thorn's "Without Me", more Windy City goodness courtesy of the inimitable Roy Davis Jr handing a deep and sultry remake of Bocca Grande's "Below My Hands" and Ewan Jansen, on form as always, with the soulful take on Taras Van De Voorde's "1998".
