Review: Local Talk's periodic round-up of classic cuts from the label's bulging back catalogue returns for an eighth time, with imprint founders Mad Mats and Tooli gathering together a predictably fine selection of tracks. Most bases are covered - house-wise, at least - from trumpet-laden Afro-house brilliance (Dasco's "African Power"), and ultra-soulful, Atjazz-esque broken house deepness (Wipe The Needle's super-smooth "Enchanted"), to "French Kiss"-inspired house hypnotism (Soulphiction's "Believe"), 21st century jazz-funk/deep house fusion (Crackazat's fine rework of Art of Tones' "The Rainbow Song") and ultra-deep, Nina Simone-sampling dancefloor bliss (Emvee's "Brotherman"). In a word: essential.

Review: Over the last few years Boddhi Satva has carved out a unique "global house" niche, where deep and soulful, Ron Trent style musicality is expertly fused with Asian and African influences. He's at it again here in cahoots with vocalist Soulstar, serving up some breezy and life affirming jams for dancefloors that like theur sounds sun-kissed and groovy. Ignore the functional radio edit and head instead of the Main Mix, where Soulstar's ashram-friendly vocal rises above snappy, polyrhythmic house beats (very Osunlade), dreamy chords and all manner of cute instrumental flourishes. These tasty touches can be heard in greater detail on the accompanying Instrumental Version, which is arguably a little more attractive than the vocal version.

Review: "Papa" is a tribute to Boddhi Satva's father who has passed away a few years ago due to a sudden illnesses. The song features Malian/Ivorian singer Mohamed Diaby; considered by many as of West Africa's most promising Griot. Mohamed tells not only the story of Boddhi's late father, but for all of those who have lost a father. A poignant tribute enhanced by not only the vocal skills of Mohamed Diaby, but the Balafons and guitars of Adama Conde who happens to be one of Mory Kante's musicians. The bass is played by another great friend of Boddhi: the very talented and highly demanded Slikk Tim.

Review: Mad Mats and Tooli have decided to celebrate five and a half years of their much-loved Local Talk label by gathering together a swathe of fresh cuts that best represent the label's eclectic approach to house music. It's a fine set, moving from the electric bass driven jazz-house of Art Of Tones' "Violation" to the UK garage influenced deep house skip of Hugo LX, via the rich, soulful house warmth of Sean McCabe, the synth-laden Herbie Hancock-isms of DJ Spinna and the celebratory disco-house heaviness of S3A's "Bob Morton". Chuck in superb contributions from Bodhi Satva, Simbad (as SMBD) and newcomer Marcel Lune, and you have a near essential collection of feel-good house moments.
