Review: Romanian-in-Berlin Borrowed Identity seems like a perfect fit for Fina, 2020 Vision's smoother and groovier little brother. Certainly, there's a smooth-but-jackin feel to the title track - produced in cahoots with long-time production pal Mechanical Soul Brother - which expertly layers choice disco vocal samples and breezy pianos atop a heavy, synth-laden groove. "Mental State" opts for a more ragged acid vibe, whilst retaining an element of cool dreaminess, before "Roboto Moves" takes us on a trip into the far reaches of the galaxy. Finally, "You're Mine" builds a formidably sweaty dancefloor groover out of elements borrowed from an old Inner Life disco classic. It's been done before, but there's something admirable about the sparsity and heaviness of Borrowed Identity's production.

Review: Since last appearing on Quintessentials, Berlin dwelling Borrowed Identity has seen his profile ratchet up with releases on Fina, Mistress and Stripped And Chewed leading up to a commission to contribute to Ryan Elliott's Panorama Bar mix. The Sexo Bonito EP is a fine time for some further exercises in sassy deep house for Quintessentials. "Shake" bumps along impressively, doffing a hat to classic U.S house via diva vocal samples, chunky bottom-end and wavy chords. "Get Down" reaches for the organs, placing them at the centre of a hustling groover that benefits greatly from some rubbery synth bass and delay-laden vocal samples. Finally, "Poems For You" is warm and calming. It sounds like the sort of thing you'd expect to hear drifting from the speakers at some beachside bar in hotter climes.

Review: Freiburg's Borrowed Identity has been one of the busiest producers of 2015, and arguably also one of the most consistent. This 12" for Let's Play House offshoot LPH White marks his fifth (and presumably final) EP of the year, and contains six bumpin', no-nonsense house workouts to entertain festive floors. He begins by joining forces with regular collaborator Mechanical Soul Brother on the low-slung, Junior Vasquez-influenced late night bump of "Vogue", before smothering a thickset groove with rich Rhodes chords and bluesy vocal samples on "Feelings For You". Other highlights include the stompin', piano-heavy goodness of "Tell Me Why", the thumping late night techno of "Red Acid Clouds", and the locked-in, late night basement throb of "Into The Blue".

Review: Germany-based Romanian producer Borrowed Identity has been picking up plaudits of late for his icy and evocative take on deep house. Following releases on Traveller Records and Stripped & Chewed, the 22 year-old has upped sticks and signed with Legendary Sound Research. As an EP, Je T'aime is full of touchy-feely delights, from the cosmic sweep of the early Simoncino-ish "Connection" and old skool deep house blast of "1989 (Summer of Love)", to the '90s deep garage revivalism of "Je T'Aime". There's also a curious but entertaining fusion of deep house and low-slung disco in the shape of "Living With You".

Review: Romanian-in-Berlin Borrowed Identity has built up an impressive discography since making his debut on Traveller Records back in 2012. Following releases on Legendary Sound Research, Quintessentials and Fina, amongst others, Searching Forever marks his debut for Hope Taping is Killing Music. There's typically plenty to enjoy, from the relentless minor key chords and bluesy vocal samples of "Nothing at All", and the hazy, soul-flecked deep shuffle of "Feeling Blue", to the thickset acid bass, shuffling beats and "Deep Burnt" style strings of the standout "Searching Forever". "One Nation Under a Groove", with its hustling chord stabs and hazy vocal samples, is also impressive.

Review: It's the onset of a brave new era for Ostgut Ton as Panorama Bar 06 signals the label's decision to halt the manufacturing of CDs for their much loved series of mixes. Due for free download via the Ostgut site on August 11, the Berlin operation have not forgone the vinyl format with all the exclusives gathered by mix curator Ryan Elliott pressed up across a pair of 12" samplers. And boy did Elliott call in the favours with this first sampler featuring new and unreleased music from Neworldaquarium, Roman Flugel, Terrence Dixon, Tuff City Kids and Borrowed Identity. It is an overall exquisite selection, running from the ambience of NWAQ's contribution to Flugel's big room stomper and the sweeter, more playful sounds of Tuff City Kids and Borrowed Identity.
