Review: Progressive house supremo Hernan Cattaneo takes us on a journey to the deep side here, and it's very much the proverbial game of two halves. In the first half, the Argentinian skillfully weaves a path through dreamy midtempo numbers (see Kymatiks' Green Fields & Lemon Skies'), moody, broody synth chuggers (Cattaneo & Soundexile's 'Flair') and full-on ambience (Navar's 'Zion'). For the second half, the dancefloor ante is raised considerably by the likes of Cid Inc's driving Balearic prog jam 'Forgotten' and the chunky, atmospheric 'Mein Sohn' by Subandrio. The deep/prog hinterland has long been Cattaneo's home, and this engaging collection shows why he's one of the scene's most revered selectors.

Review: New York City based Brian Cid appears next for Australian label Balance Music. An acclaimed studio engineer on pop projects in his recent past, he is now driven by a love of club culture and brings a lush and melodic style to the scene - as heard on labels like fabric, Knee Deep In Sound and Get Physical. The Endangered Records head honcho delivers some seriously deep and hypnotic perspectives in tech-house for his full length entitled Meteorite Man: brilliantly exemplified on the slinky mentalist groove of "Quest" or the hypnotic journey down the vortex that is "Limits" awash in a rich tapestry of melody and texture - among many others on this fine release.

Review: Guy J's Lost & Found bring us the fifth installment in their annual 'best of' series. The collection's sitting in our Deep House section but, like the label's output generally, would be equally at home on the progressive/melodic pages, with the label boss's two contributions sitting alongside tracks from other well-known names such as Brian Cid, Tantum, Stereo Underground and Roy Rosenfeld. It can all get a bit floaty and epic in places, and tracks like Stereo Underground's 'Space Fields' and Guy J's 'Beast Of Sea' arguably lean a little more towards the progressive techno side of things, but there's still much to enjoy here.
