Review: Recently, Fokuz Recordings have been issuing the odd album of re-mastered and re-visited tunes from the past. The latest come from Brother, with a full-length LP of tracks from 2008-2012 for you to bend your ears round. All these tunes have that old-school vibe to the percussion, which sits low-down in the frequency range and sounds tough, rusty and full of character. Unlike the crispness of 2019, the goal even just five to ten years ago was to create a sound-scape of charisma, not pure clarity, and Brother clearly knew what was up back then. Each of these is delicate and thoughtfully put together - one for the true Fokuz fans.

Review: As if being one half of Silent Dust and preparing to release their long awaited second album next month wasn't quite enough, the None60 bossman Hobzee can also be found lurking in more liquified, soulful quarters with long time collaborator Zyon Base. Here we find them in their most prolific state as they build a 22 track opus of collaborations and solo pieces. Ranging from delicate emotional tackle ("Night On Earth") to much darker rollage ("Unspoken") to superb elastic funk ("Rock Ya Soul") this covers the full soul spectrum with perfect levels of weight, poignancy and emotion. We're going to need more than one night on this planet to digest these sounds...

Review: Last October D&B powerhouse Fokuz decided to hold a competition to remix "Breathbox", a track from Brother's excellent Cold Shoulder album, and this package lets you get your hands on the winning entries. Characterised by its cool electronic punchiness, "Breathbox" was a standout track, but in the hands of these three upstarts it gains new life. Flame beefs it up ever so subtly with some twisting subs, Phase accentuates the whole thing with a bold symphonic backdrop and grimy bass and Sektor turns the track into a hectic piece of hectic sci-fi jump-up. It's genuinely impossible to pick our favourite!

Review: Essex lad Brother and Sydney-bound Severity Zero have put mere miles aside to create this soulful EP, and everyone should be glad they did. The title track is a deeply soulful ride through lush liquid grooves and funky stepping beats perfect for getting the crowd moving. Also included is Malaky's sparkling remix of "Corners", which pieces together a heartbeat of a ticking clock with soul vibes and a laid-back attitude. More chilled than your average Malaky track, it's a beautiful slow burner made for cosy winter nights. One for the dreamers.

Review: Bringing together the most talented young upstarts in soulful drum & bass right now, Celsius UK are really spoiling us. Smooth, rolling tunes are exactly what everyone needs to brighten up those dark mornings and tracks like "Still Blue" and "Knights Like These" with their deep grooving basslines do just that. Malaky's doomy effort "Soon" has the potential for some real dancefloor action too, with growling bass and a touch of dark and techy experimentation. A real mixed bag of tunes, get yourself a treat.

Review: A bold statement from Focuz, this collection of smooth house cuts from Brother marks the second edition of his Cold Shoulder series. Taking crisp production and mixing it with his trademark magpie-like sampling, the album spans from lounge electronica in the tone of Air or Royksopp to harder footwork and dubstep-influenced rhythms. It's a unique and experimental collection of tracks - intriguing but accessible. Top tune: "Lucid Lux".

Review: British producer Paul Donald aka Brother has been well-known on the liquid circuit for some years now, putting out solid releases from as far back as 2005 on the likes of Sonorous, Soul Deep Recordings and Fokuz. Most of his best work has been with Fokuz so it was only right that this 13 track LP would be released via the label who've taken him the furthest. With themes of live-recorded and manipulated sounds, each track shows a different side to Brother's versatility as a producer. Spanning from the rain-soaked crackle of "Corners" to the fresh, electronic punchiness of "Breathbox", it's an accomplished release well worth bagging.

Review: Fokuz specialize in lush, liquid beats and so it's to be expected that Fokuz & Friends Vol 3 will be nothing less than a culmination of this. Right you are, as we are plunged into the Fokuz utopia straight away courtesy of a sumptuous cut from the Contract Killers called "The Life Moments"; this is swiftly followed up by a jazzy little number from Alix Perez & Redeyes ("Watching U"), plus a killer from Command Strange & Intelligent Manners - "Talking About Love" - which is all subdued atmospherics and pattering beats. Elsewhere across this excellent selection are some treats from Furi Anga, Silent Dust and Blue Motion.

Review: Another day, another dollar, another magnificent release from Fokuz. Here they bring together friends and family for the second installment in their Fokuz & Friends compilation album series, which is, as you would expect, full of blissed out beauties and liquid gems from artist such as Calibre, Eveson, Mindscape and more. The album begins with the Calibre remix of Silent Dust's - "1959" - a beautiful and gentle cut, with tripping breaks and lilting melodies. We are then taken through such moments as "It's Your Jazz" with its shimmying rhythms, the raw jungle edge of "Inna Dem Clothes" to Getz's "Little Hand Bells" which brings the project to a close.
