Review: As ever with the Astrophonica overlords, they have delivered us a precious gift of sonic wonder, unveiling Slow Astro volume 3 & 4 from Fracture and a variety of other artists. The beauty of this collection is that, not for one second, do we know what's about to happen next, with different twists and turns around every corner, from the Slow Mix of Philip D & Om Unit's 'Funk 160' masterclass, or Fracture's overhaul of 'Wavefile_Dayjob', unleashing the most acidic of instrumentation into the world. There are a number of highlights, with Fractures remix ability being on full display from start to finish, but his smartly distorted overall of 'Conditional' from Sam Binga and the percussive crunch of his 'No Matter How Far' rethink, originally from BSN Posse are a real pair of standouts.

Review: The Defrostatica team have come together to unleash a fabulous display of modern juke-music here as they deliver 21 tracks of pure energy, showcasing the full spectrum of footwork across nearly 100 minutes of original sonic wizardry. From the euphoric, almost arpeggiated melodies of Jont1st's 'Pantone Suplex' and disruptive, industrial-like percussion of DJ YumYum's 'Antigene' to the more junglist inspired drum skips of Arcane's war-like 'Won't Deny' original, this project covers an insane amount of ground. There are a couple of clear highlights for us, the first of which has to be the ethereal vocal masterpiece that is Kiat's 'Transcribe', alongside the acidic drips of Sam Binga's 'Carbob' remix, originally coming from HomeSick. What a collection this is.

Review: Today we are here to take a look at some seriously smooth newschool footwork production as we welcome BSN Posse & Sideswipe back to the Modern Ruin release schedule. They arrive on the scene with five original bangers, kicking off with the steadily progressing chord structures of 'Stratus', which move smoothly into the junglistic drum twists and R&G style vocal slices of 'Slow It Down'. Next, we enter the luxurious orchestral sampling of 'Blue Sky' before the more classic Jersey Club production style of 'Bones' appears on the scene. Finally, 'Southbound' finishes the project with a touch of subby goodness, packed with intelligent vocal dips and sharp drum work as ever.

Review: Few labels hit the spot like Fracture's Astrophonica. Home to breaksmithery's most innovative waifs and strays, every release writhes in those gloopy, unfathomable pastures between jungle, juke, beats and just straight up sick electronica. This sophomore edition of the label's V/A Gradients series is a perfect example as everyone from Luke Vibert to Sully lay down powerful designs. Every single track is a highlight but you'd be mad not to get mucky with Binga, James and Shafique's "Everfresh", get lost in the dubby wooziness of Groves' "Hennessy Brown", get air punchy to Fracture's technoid thumper "Dropping Yu" or get straight up sexual to BSN Posse's "No Matter How Far"... Ain't no track too steep, Gradients has every single breakbeat flavour you could need this season.

Review: Sweet murderation! Sizzling Spaniards BSN Posse unleash five firing originals on the spotless Modern Ruin and suddenly things in the world don't seem quite so scary. Soulful, smooth, subverted, this is the sound of a well-considered, detailed footwork EP that's matched with six equally sharp refixes. Highlights include the sultry syrup harmonies on "Soul Train", the AK47 drumflow of "Drifting" and the dreamboat behaviour of "About U". Meanwhile on the rubs, we've got heaters galore with as Nikes takes us into cosmic tribal territories, Rootless dips low into sexual 808 healing and Footmerc washes us so hard with his fluttering chords you'll need a towel after you've played it. Powerful.

Review: London's Modern Ruin hadn't been messing around since their first release, and now the label are back with a hot collaboration between Slime's BSN Posse, and newcomer Stayhigh in what could possibly be one of the label's most soulful and seductive slice of bass weight, as of yet. The opener by BSN Posse, "All My Dreams" is a gorgeous bit of sliding drums and placid vocals, and the follower by Stayhigh, "You're Not Alone", follows in a similar vein except there is more energy and more of a rise in momentum. Check all these cuts out; the moral of the story is that these guys are just simply good at making sidewalk bass music with an elegant, maybe eve jazzy edge.

Review: Spanish bass heads BSN Posse have enjoyed a productive 2014, dropping well-received EPs on Hot N Heavy and Car Crash Set, amongst others. Here, they pop up on new imprint Daily Operation with two more jackin' club cuts. "Too Long" kicks things off, with pretty vocal samples, flamenco guitar snippets and swirling chords adding a melodious sheen to the duo's punchy, handclap-heavy footwork rhythm. "Let Me Go" starts in similarly deep and dreamy fashion, before springing into life two minutes in. From this point onward things get a little sweatier, with rave era vocal stabs and spiraling melodies riding a surging juke beat.

Review: BSN Posse, who have appeared previously on the Slime imprint, land on their feet for Hot N Heavy with a blistering two-tracker, reminding us not to take the winter so seriously. "Rum & Coconut" merges 4/4 kicks with majestic, warm chords and gentle female vocals riding in the background. "You Know The Way" speeds up the tempo but retains the cloudiness and mystique of the previous track, giving us an uplifting, quasi-garage anthem for the coming months. Blissful.
