Review: 877 have been a legendary imprint in the UK over the years, championing the most exuberant and exciting bass music from around the world, which this latest remix collection from Burland is a fabulous extensive showcasing of, once again. We open up with Fixate arriving in every majestic level imaginable, with a vibrant overhaul of 'Dagobah' fusing acidic chord progressions and super jittery bass dives for a truly unique overhaul. Next up, Fixate then delivers a nostalgia-inducing breaks remix, letting loose a beefy central drumline, shrouded in warbling LFO squeaks, with Bidl providing the final dash of sauce with his remix stripping everything back into a more tribal-inspired roller. Awesome work!
Review: It's been a short minute since we last heard from Brighton's legendary 877 camp, who make their return with this sumptuous four track sweep from the globetrotting Burland. Full of percussive power from start to finish, we begin with the devilish drum expressions and uber-groovy bass drips of the title track 'Dagobah', a seriously groovy introductory number. This is then followed by the mega bouncy rhythms and intricate perc melodies of 'Untitled 140' and the post-hip-hop twists of 'Seven Eight', a moody roller stuffed to the brim with good bassy energy. Finally, for a rhythmic rearrangement, the VIP mix of 'Dagobah' is unleashed for a fiery outro, giving us a sizzling finale, once again showcasing just how on the money the ears behind 877 are!
Review: For this latest offering from Mawimbi, we welcome Burland who arrives on the scene ready for action with four super original creations, all rotating around a central funky theme. We kick off with a top notch collaboration with Zongo Abongo who layers his super authentic vocal flows over colourful percussive rhythms with some amazing results. Next up, 'Agbekor' lands with another bag of rhythmic power, driven by it's insistent grooves and sharp drum processing, before 'Riffin' On The Bow' picks up the pace with a quicker yet more minimal approach. Finally, Burland slows it right down with more fabulous vocal work and groovy, irresistible drum maneuvers on 'Me So Love Ya'.
