Review: Here's something we didn't expect: a Nu Groove label debut from original breakbeat-house hero - and for a long time Layo's right-hand man - Matthew 'Bushwacka' B. Sonically it makes perfect sense, though, because the four cuts on show seem to have been inspired by the label's glory days in the late '80s and early '90s, as well as vintage UK deep house. 'Strictly Nu' is a rolling, sweat-soaked builder smothered in dreamy chords and underpinned by rubbery, oscillating synth-bass, while 'Love Can You' joins the dots between the Burrell Brothers and glassy-eyed warehouse dancefloors at 5am. 'Right Now' sees him blend his own funk-fuelled breakbeat-house rhythms with fluttering flute solos, loved-up vocal samples and warm chords, while 'True For You' is as gorgeous as it is tough and peak-time ready.
Review: Bushwacka! and Michel De Hey team up for a four-track EP of techno and house on Future Feel. The EP showcases their vast skills and experience as veteran DJs and producers. The first track "Do What You Want" is a house banger with a swing-fuelled beat, a catchy vocal sample and a euphoric chord progression. The second track "Cream" is a minimal groove with a bouncy bassline, atonal chords and steely rhythms to keep the party going on and on!

Review: Following a great release by legends Doc Martin and Blakkat earlier this month, London maverick Bushwacka is back on his Oblong label with the Cave Dwellers EP. The former End resident and UK tech house pioneer serves up two sweltering tracks; first up there's the deeply hypnotic tribal tech house drama of "TOAD", with more entrancing polyrhythms to follow on "WHAT IT IS" which underpin a rich tapestry of analogue synth textures and melodies that is properly geared for those heads down moments in the club.

Review: What's there to be said about Bushwacka! that has not been already? The man known to his mum as Matthew Benjamin is synonymous with the UK tech house sound nigh on nearly three decades; heading up Olmeto Records with partner in crime Layo Paskin and legendary nightclub The End, as well as rubbing shoulders with fellow local legends like Mr C, Terry Francis and Nathan Coles. A tribute to Benjamin's back catalogue is well overdue, and Above Board Distribution has done a great job of presenting some of his seminal works between 1995 - 2005 here on 'Listen Up! Vol 02'. Featuring a broad selection of music taken from the cult Plank and Oblong labels, plus remixes from longtime friends and collaborators. Highlights come in the form of Mashupheadz "Blue Skies" (a collab with the aforementioned Coles), the deep acidified breaks of Tokamak's "Set Up" (which he did a grand job of remixing) or his distinct tribal house vibes best heard on "So Lonely" from back in '96.

Review: With four of Matthew Bushwacka's own productions and four from other people, 'Listen Up!' kind of blurs the lines between artist album and compilation, but we suggest you stop worrying what box to put it in and just do what the title says! Ranging from the retro rave energy of Plus's 'Untitled' to the late-night deep house goodness of Asad Rizvi's 'Dual' to Bushwacka's own heavy, almost EBM-ish 'Smashed', with 303 flecks scattered liberally throughout, what you have here are eight tracks that are built to move bodies on small-hours dancefloors while keeping the brain equally engaged.

Review: Throughout the 2000s, Matthew "Bushwacka!" Benjamin played a significant role in popularizing a new wave of "breakbeat house" that drew influence from techno and tech-house. It's perhaps ironic, then, that the London veteran's first single in six years steers clear of breakbeats altogether, instead serving up two rolling chunks of smooth tech-house funk. We're particularly enjoying title track "The Awakening", where wonky vocal samples, lilting guitars and bubbly electronic motifs ride a killer, synth-bass driven groove. "Don't Let Me Down", meanwhile, is a creepier and more off-kilter affair, with hissing Motor City cymbals, post-acid electronics and sweeping, soundtrack style chords rising above a wonky tech-house groove.

Review: It's a long time since Bushwacka (aka Matthew Benjamin) dropped his legendary Billie Jean rework and he's come a long way since! Here he is in a rare appearance without partner Layo, delivering a mix DJ mix The Everlasting for out listening pleasure. Aside from the mix, the 15 tracks featured in it also appear in full. Highlights include the tough rhythmic loops of "Let It Play" (which features vocals from EQ), Makesome Breaksome's electric ghetto-tech roller "Let's Dance" and the funky breaks of "Sweet Tings" by Mashupheadz.
