Review: If dancefloor-oriented soulful/disco house and nu disco are what float your boat then this latest V/A from Midnight Riot is one you'll want to check for sure. Volume 6 opens with the beefed-up 70s groove that is Yam Who?, Jaegerossa & Suki Soul's rework of Stargard's 'Wear It Out' (as sampled on Pete Heller's 'Big Love') and closes with some pure boogie sweetness from SequenceProgram & Mishell Ivon, while in-between you'll find the hazy, lazy Balearic pianos of Luca V1's 'Take Me On', peaktime disco stompery from Natasha Kitty Katt, uptempo flute-fuelled funk from C Da Afro, the marriage of Caron Wheeler's tonsils and some killer disco stabs on 'Keep On Shining' and, well, you get the idea! Essential stuff for glittered-up groovers on mirrorball manoeuvres.

Do It Steady - (5:16) 120 BPM Hot
Loopo Brazilero - (5:56) 124 BPM
Review: Greece's C Da Afro comes to Mexican label Furious Mandrill with two appropriately tropical-sounding cuts. 'Do It Steady' opens with percussion and pipe sounds before busting out a heavy 70s funk bassline which is mirrored by the horns and strings, giving the track something of a Blaxploitation soundtrack vibe in the early stages before it morphs into full-on disco. The accompanying 'Loopo Braziliero', unsurprisingly, is more Latin in feel, with the horns well and truly to the fore. Not sure if these are original productions or re-edits, but both are well suited to sweaty summer nights regardless.

Dancefloor Stories
Dancefloor Stories - (6:00) 120 BPM
Paperclip Jam - (5:40) 120 BPM Hot
Solaris - (5:29) 124 BPM
Dancefloor Stories (Frank Virgilio ReThink) - (5:59) 120 BPM
Review: Athens-based funk n' disco producer Christos Antoniou returns to Hot Digits Music with three original tracks here, while fellow label regular Frank Virgilio supplies the obligatory remix. The instrumental 'Dancefloor Stories' itself has something of an 80s, Miami Vice-ish kinda feel, thanks largely to the nagging synth riff that forms its backbone. Elsewhere, 'Papercllp Jam' is a squelchy funker with Zapp/Cameo leanings, 'Solaris' marries fluttering Chic-y guitars to authentically 70s-sounding brass, while finally Naples native Virgilio takes the title track down a darker path, toning down the original's spangly 80s sheen and adding layers of tribal percussion.

Review: If tooled-up, house-friendly disco and boogie reworks is your thing, you should already be familiar with Seamus Haji's Re-Loved label. Here the long-serving DJ presents an expansive collection of high-grade edits, revisions and remixes from the label's recent past, plus a couple of bonus all-action DJ mixes. There's naturally not enough room to list all of the highlights, but our current favourites include the celebratory disco-house bump of Birdee's "Start The Weekend", a tasty combo of Class Action vocal snippets and sweeping, string-laden peak-time riches, the percussive Afro-disco/deep house fusion of Frank Virgilio's "Clouds", the sweaty, horn-heavy bump of Hotmood's bustling "We Got It", and the kaleidoscopic electrofunk colour of '80s Child's boogie-soul re-rub "Comin' Back 2 U".

Review: When it comes to celebratory, life-affirming musical positivity, you can't beat Midnight Riot's ongoing "Disco Made Me Do It" compilation series, which gathers together a mixture of re-edits, reworks and original productions from the label's vast roster of artists. At 24 tracks deep it's a bit of an epic, though we can happily confirm that the quality threshold remains impressively high throughout. Our current favourites include the Redux Inc re-edit of Casa Blanco's P-funk flavoured hip-wiggler, "Funk & Dub With You", the rushing, piano-powered house bounce of "Got Me" by Ladies on Mars, label boss Yam Who's sparkling nu-boogie revision of Phil Jaimes' "My Sensitivity" and the deep, groovy '80s soul flex of Chevals' "Thank You For The Ride".

Saxolicious - (7:03) 120 BPM
Congalicious - (5:55) 122 BPM Hot
Review: The two tracks here are called 'Saxalicious' and 'Congalicious', which gives you a little bit of a clue as to what they might sound like! 'Saxalicious' is up first and looks to vintage African funk for inspiration, though whether the distinctly 80s-esque sax line (which is applied surprisingly sparingly) comes from the same source or has been added by C Da Afro himself isn't clear. 'Congalicious' treads similar ground, but leans more to the funk rather than the Afro side of the equation, and as such could have slightly broader dancefloor appeal - if you'd told us it was a long-lost Brass Construction joint, we'd have believed you!

Review: As the year comes to a close, labels are naturally offering up celebratory compilations showcasing their strongest releases of 2019. The latest comes from Midnight Riot, a prolific imprint that rarely fails to serve up the fieriest contemporary disco heat. As you'd expect, the 26-track selection includes a blend of superb original productions (the nu-disco soul warmth of Jack Tyson Charles' "Glory", Alton Edwards sweaty, synth-bass propelled boogie-house gem "I Just Wanna Spend Time With You", the swirling disco headiness of Arthur Baker's "Reachin' Out") and re-edits/reworks (Dr Packer's gospel boogie revision "The Power", C Da Afro's disco-funk slammer "Party Purpose" and the suitably celebratory "Boogie On Time" by Ladies On Mars). As you'd expect, the quality threshold remains impressively high throughout.

Review: In some cases it's useful to name-check some of the labels a producer has released music on; in the case of re-edit scene stalwart C Da Afro, it's easier to name the handful of imprints he's not appeared on. Here the prolific Greek rework merchant returns to Midnight Riot for the first time in almost five months, which by his standards is an eternity. As usual there's plenty to set the pulse racing across the EP, from the lolloping, electric piano-sporting orchestral disco brilliance of "Party Purpose", to the dewy-eyed, slap-bass sporting goodness of "Get Happy" and the filter-smothered disco-house revision business of bouncy closing cut "The Love For The Music".

Review: Going by the volume of tracks on show, it would be fair to say that Masterworks Music's "Bag of Tricks" is not a little handbag, but more like a Mary Poppins style bottomless carpetbag. The label's latest rummage through its seemingly endless contents has been a successful one, with the 20 showcased cuts including a wealth of fine fusions of disco, house, boogie, electro and 80s soul. It's uniformly dancefloor-focused, with highlights including the Afro-house/disco-tech fusion of JB Dizzy, the driving, spaced-out disco-house grooves of Mike Woods, the loose-limbed, off-the-wall edits of Chewy Rubs, the sweet disco-soul bounce of RocknRolla Soundsystem, the delay-laden synth sing-along styles of Rayko and the hot-to-trot brilliance of Downunder Disco.

Tropical Boogie - (7:02) 120 BPM
Zooming - (6:10) 116 BPM
Review: These days, C Da Afro seems to be pushing the likes of Rayko, Sunner Soul and Mitiko hard for the coveted title of "most prolific remixer and re-editor". The Greek producer is once again in fine form on this Furious Mandrill outing, offering up a quartet of cuts that are funkier than a gurning gibbon after a night out with the Goodies. Our pick of a very strong bunch is sturdy, filter-sporting disco-highlife revision "Highlight Groove", though sweet, string-laden opener "Coconuts" and the colourful, synth-laden tropical disco number "Tropical Boogie" push it close. Kwaito/Afro-boogie number "Zooming", which closes the EP in fine style, is also worth a listen.

My Disco Lady - (6:08) 121 BPM
Review: In a sea of wonked-out cosmic/Italo-influenced productions, this EP from C Da Afro stands out like a beacon for those in search of more straight-up disco pleasures. 'My Disco Lady' has a harmonised "super lady, super girl" female chorus, a struttin' bassline and synthesized brass stabs, while 'Move Your Feet' is an uptempo cut that sits right on the disco/disco-house cusp and sports some fine Philly-like strings. The sax-tastic 'Let's Go Downstairs' then nudges closer to jazz-funk territory, while completing the EP is 'Keep It Real', with hefty drums, house-y pianos and parping sax designed to give the dancefloor a proper workout.

Review: An 11-track compilation of modern day funk and disco here from Norway's Walking Disco stable. While Rayko and C Da Afro are both represented, the emphasis generally is on lesser-known names, but there's still plenty of quality on offer. Fingerman conjures the classier, jazzier end of 80s boogie nicely on 'Mind Fonk', while equally convincing are the mid-70s velvet-suited disco vibes of Disco Funk Spinner's 'Fascinating Strike'. Funk Hunk apes classic Moroder on 'After Dark', while label owner Saskin S bookends the collection with two slow-moving funk jams, 'Yes, You Know I'm Right' and 'My Pnoop'. Classy stuff.

Review: Greek producer C Da Afro steps up to the plate with four more re-edits here. The source of the first two is a mystery, but 'Gambling In Vegas' itself has clearly been drawn from the loungier end of the 70s disco spectrum while 'Knock Out Groove' moves a little forward in time to the boogie era of the early 80s. 'True To The Cause' reworks Cheryl Lynn's 'If You'll Be True To Me' from 1981 and is packed with hand-clappin', finger-poppin' disco energy, while Leon Hayward's 1983 Casablanca single 'I'm Out To Catch' provides the basis for EP closer 'Disco Tonic'.

Review: On his latest EP for Fingerman's Hot Digits label, Athens hero C Da Afro is in full-on synth-boogie mode. Raiding his collection of '80s soul records for inspiration, the prolific producer offers up a trio of reworks rich in bold synth-bass, dewy-eyed vocals and colourful melodies. Choose between the aptly titled "Slick", the elastic, P-funk-tinged bounce of "Can't Get Enough" and the fliter-and-saxophone-sporting haziness of "Gonna Get You", another '80s soul revision that's been subtly tooled up for contemporary dancefloors. Remix wise, the killer contribution comes from Chewy Rubs, whose Dub mix of "Slide" is an on-point study in hard synth bass, ricocheting guitars, chunky guitars, echoing vocal samples and delay-laden synthesizer flashes.

Review: Midnight Riot's compilations are not only uniformly action-packed, but also offer great value for money. The latest edition in the imprint's ongoing "Disco Made Me Do It" series offers up no less than 25 tried-and-tested cuts to pep up your DJ sets. In keeping with the label's party-starting ethos, there's a good mix of disco-fired house cuts (see Michael Gray's "24/7 People"), revivalist disco-boogie (Qwestlife's remix of Nick Reach Up's "Dreaming"), filter-sporting boogie-house (Ladies On Mars), top-notch disco re-edits (Twism's "What I Know"), Tiger & Woods style loop jams (Motte's "Darkroom Boogie") and party-staring 21st century disco-funk ("Chance" by Rees).

Review: Fresh from lending his sublime scalpel skills to Editorial as part of the label's latest multi-artist extravaganza, C Da Afro returns to Disco Fruit with another tasty two-track missive. The Grecian producer is in predictably fine form on chunky, bass-heavy opener "Music Is Love", where dubbed-out vocal snippets, jazzy guitar motifs, swirling strings and fuzzy organ riffs cluster around a rubbery, all action disco-house groove. "Sugar Love" is an altogether more synth heavy beast, with C Da Afro applying his successful formula - all beefed-up bottom end and excitement building filter sweeps - to a dazzling slab of colourful '80s Euro-boogie goodness.

Review: Hold tight for more boozy dancefloor excess from the Editorial crew, a collective of re-editors whose musical output is always worth a listen. The seven-track missive begins with a chunk of electric piano-laden samba/jazz-funk magic courtesy of Nik M, before sometime Hot Digits and Midnight Riot man Frank Virgillio offers a more piano and percussion-laden chunk of sun-kissed Brazilian magic. Labor of Love gets the disco juices flowing via the cowbell-heavy shuffle of disco funker "Like I Do", The Funk District reach for the Clavinets on hazy roller "Baby Got It" and I Gemin smothers a tasty groove in liquid synths and deep house flourishes on "Oh Baby". To round things off, C Da Afro rearranges a warm and groovy electrofunk jam and Rica lays down some colourful nu-disco deepness.

Review: While Christos Antoniou AKA C Da Afro releases rather a lot of tidy re-edits, he often saves his best work for Midnight Riot. Or at least that's how it seems to us. Certainly, there's much to enjoy on the Greek producer's latest outing on Yam Who's label. Highlights include "Feel Like Dancing" - a rolling, pumped-up revision of a 1986 94 East private press jam to which Antoniou has added a thickset synth bassline - and the soaring orchestration and thumping disco-house grooves of "Heaven". Slick P-funk revision "Tonight" - all bubby synths, kaleidoscopic solos and Roger Troutman style talkbox vocals - is also worth a listen.

Review: Greek producer C Da Afro (Christos Antoniou) has been plying his disco trade for a few years now, with releases on labels such as SpinCat, About Disco and Disco Fruit, but here he comes to the ultra-hip Midnight Riot with a three-tracker that'll delight those in search of some authentically 70s-sounding grooves. 'Yesterday' is a lavish affair topped with female vocals in a near-chanted style, 'Disco State' has a vaguely Candido-esque feel and sports some fine parpin' saxophone, while completing the package is 'The Flip Track', which is considerably pacier than the other two, operating at an almost hi-NRG tempo.

Review: Fingerman's Hot Digits label has now notched up 50 releases. To celebrate this landmark occasion, the man himself has selected 25 of his favourite cuts from the label's rapidly expanding back catalogue. As a showcase for everything that's good about the imprint, it does a bang up job, gleefully jogging between exotic mid-tempo disco and disco-funk (Frank Virgilio, Dr Packer, The funk District), slo-mo disco-acid (Fingerman's tremendous rework of B-Jam's "Sundog"), kaleidoscopic, reworked '80s boogie business (Casual Connection, Melon Bomb, the hard-tweaked filters and heady loop business of Chewy Rubs), tried-and-tested party-starters (Smashed Atoms, Get Down Edits remixing Stephen Richards) and giddy peak-time workouts (Shit Hot Soundsystem, Dave Gerrard, Thomas Maslo, Kiu D). As the old saying goes, this is all killer, no filler.

Review: Edit imprint Furious Mandrill has barely put a foot wrong since debuting back in November 2016. The label's latest hot-to-trot missive comes from C Da Afro, a talented Greek producer and re-editor who has spent the last five years releasing party-starting grooves on some of the rework scene's most lauded labels. He kicks things off with "Only", a rework of a killer Nigerian boogie favourite smothered in glistening new pianos, meandering synth solos and cowbell driven disco drums. It's a tasty and tactfully execution revision, all told. "Serious Jam" inhibits similar sonic territory, serving up a sparkling tweak of another boogie-era Nigerian instrumental rich in jaunty piano stabs, elastic bass and glassy-eyed dancefloor positivity.

The Greek producer has delivered tasty reworks for a dizzying array of labels over the years, none more so than the mighty Midnight Riot. He's at it again here, too, with what we believe to be his fifth outing on Yam Who's label. Choose between the rolling, jazz guitar-laden disco-funk bump of "The Shadow", the filter tricks and effervescent synthesizer/piano solos of cheery disco-boogie shuffler "Moving On Up" and the sparkling, Italo disco-meets-electrofunk brilliance of title track "Playboy Boogie",

which is arguably the strongest moment on another fine EP.

Review: Athens based C Da Afro is radio Producer and owner Of Nitro Radio 102.5 FM. He delivers some neon-lit boogie down funk on his new offering entitled "Too Hot To Handle". With previous releases on Editorial Records, Spa In Disco, Alpaca Edits and fellow Greek George Kelly's Chop Shop Music: this guy certainly ain't messing around! For something a bit more low-slung (and definitely slo-mo) we'd say next offering "Passion Fruit" is certainly a tip for the early evening or late night alike. Finally "Rebel Disco" gets some swagger on via a '70s rock/disco fusion reminiscent of Frank Farian's legendary work in the era. These edits certainly are obscure enough (by our standards anyway) and certainly sound respectful - which is the main thing. Above all they are reliable dancefloor fodder for any discerning nu-disco DJ and we'd recommend them for sure.

There's much to admire throughout, from the low-slung boogie bass and cut glass disco strings of Phil Da Burn's "Wallflower" and the spacey synth-funk of Funk Bank's wiggly "Jamming With The Thunder", to the bouncy disco/New Jersey garage fusion of BOI's "The Gift" and the straightened-out sunshine soul of Dee Bunk's "Little Brown Eye Girl". Review: Greek re-editor and remixer C Da Afro was one of the nu-disco success stories of 2016, so hopes are naturally high for his first outing of 2017. Lost In Echo is predictably strong, offering up a trio of tracks that gleefully blurs the boundaries between re-editing and original production. We're particularly enjoying the low-slung disco-funk grooves, fluid additional percussion hits, breezy vocals and dub disco effects of "Say You'll Be Mine", though sweet, boogie-based opener "You Don't Know" - all meandering organ lines, loved-up chord progressions, rubbery guitars and sing-along vocals - is arguably the EP's most floor-friendly moment. The pitched-down disco camp of "Tell Me Something" is pleasingly dubbed-out, too.

Review: Serbian edit king Tonbe digs deep into the vaults of his prolific Disco Fruit stable, returning with a 10-track selection of club-ready highlights. There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing, from the swirling strings and sumptuous, Barry White style grooves of Mitiko's "As You Grow Up" and the acid-laden wiggle of Evil Smarty's fantastic revision of The Osmonds "I,I.I" (here titled "Feel The Fire"), to the pumping drums, low-slung bass and flash-fried, Hendrix-style guitars of Loshmi's "Drugstore". Tonbe himself drops a bouncy chunk of disco-house pressure in the shape of "Don't Mess With Us" (complete with hip-house style sampled vocals), while C Da Afro impresses with the cheeky synths and quirky boogie backing of "One Step".

Review: Thanks to a clutch of solid releases on Midnight Riot, About Disco, SpinCat and Disco Future, 2016 has been a successful year for C Da Afro. Here, the Greek producer draws it to a close via a first outing on Disco Fruit. "I Love You Forever" is beautifully sweet and sugary, with the producer fusing his own nu-disco electronics and slow house beats, with extensive elements of a forgotten '80s soul jam. The '80s grooves return on jazz-funk-meets-electrofunk shuffler "One Step", before he ups the tempo considerably on the bumping "The Groove of Love", where chiming synthesizer melodies and smooth vocals are accompanied by bouncy house beats and a killer synth bassline.

The fact that he rarely puts a step wrong, despite this epic productivity, is particularly impressive. For further proof, check out the three nu-disco productions showcased on Don't Stop Groovin. There's something almost overwhelmingly positive about the cascading synthesizer melodies, tumbling lead lines, clipped guitars, and retro-futurist boogie grooves at the heart of "Unlimited Time", while "Don't Stop Groovin (Disco Dub)" melds the loopy, boogie-house funk of Tiger & Woods with the thrusting, disco-house hustle of vintage "French Touch" material. Further peak-time sweatiness is also supplied in the shape of "DiScO Sex", a raunchy disco-house stomper laden with twittering flute solos.

Here, the Athens-based duo delivers more similarly celebratory, party-ready fare for Midnight Riot. They begin with the rolling, 109 BPM goodness of "Feel My Life", a delicious fusion of sparkling synths, glittery guitar lines, smooth vocals and head-nodding grooves. "Together (Guitar Mix)" craftily turns a lesser-known, mid-tempo boogie jam into a guitar and synth solo-laden, eyes-closed monster. Best of all, though, is the shirts-off pomp of "Bad Disco Lady", which gains much of its dancefloor power thanks to the combination of extended, filter-laden breakdowns and notable drops.

Review: There's a reason that Midnight Riot's eponymous compilations frequently charge to the top of the Juno Download charts. Put simply, they never disappoint. This ninth installment sticks to the now tried-and-tested formula - house-friendly re-edits and originals from across the disco, boogie, soul and funk spectrum - but predictably hits the spot throughout. As usual, there's a bonus mix - this time put together by globe-trotting scalpel jockey Rayko - and tracks come from both label regulars ('80s Child, Ziggy Phunk, Chewy Funk) and an impressive array of new or unheralded talents. It's in the latter category that you'll find some of the most impressive fare - see Phil Jaimes deliciously Balearic "Nowhere To Hide" and Cosmocomics' kaleidoscopic synth-funk jam "Mary Jane" - though the standard remains pleasingly high throughout.
