Review: The Apersonal label are masters of jumping between house and disco - that's disco with a modern twist, of course - and their releases have come from a wide selection of European talent over the past few years. This time, the label have put together a compilation, one big release to showcase what they're all about. House master James Teej opens the festivities with the docile and ethereal dance gem that is "Light & Love", a gorgeous blend of sounds that's followed by even more chord-heavy madness with C-Rock, Sello and Leonid, among others. This is dance music for the coasts, a bundle of beautiful music to warm your soul.
Review: Christian "C-Rock" Rindermann is one of German techno's longest-serving producers, with releases stretching back to the mid 1990s. Here, he reworks one of his forgotten gems, 1995's "Funky Dope Trakk". The original, included here, is a lesson in breakbeat-infused tech-house jack - all acid squiggles, relentless percussion and hip-hop vocal samples. His 2013 remix has a similar rave-inclined feel, with bold electronic riffs replacing the original's 303-madness. It's a decent update, all told. Even better is Boris Werner's low-slung analogue rework, which sits somewhere between original Chicago acid and early British tech-house. Sascha Dive, meanwhile, sticks close to the vibe of the original on his twisted, funk-fuelled rework.
