Antonio Castro aka (C4STRO) is an upcoming music producer and DJ based in Lisbon. His sets and tracks can easily be defined as soulful, deep, and eclectic where a clear influence of his jazz studies glues everything together.
C4STRO started to rise in the underground house scene as the co-founder of Oasis Records Portugal, playing in venues such as Micro Club, NADA Temple, Arroz Estúdios, Boom Vibrations, Lulu, Insitu etc.
Recently, C4STRO started a duo with KLAI (KL4USTRO) - known for their fresh and innovative approach to House Music - and joined well-established producer Ramboiage to showcase their musical versatility and groovy demos now turned into full-fledged dancefloor weapons.
Review: Two tracks in five very different mixes make up this new collaborative EP from Portugal's Vitor Silveira, AKA Ramboiage, and fellow Lisbon native C4STRO. 'I Need You', in its Original form, marries tribalistic percussion, soulful male vocal wails and crisp handclaps to organs that parp and parp and parp some more, before Pete Herbert drops the tempo on a remix that's laced heavily with 80s synth sounds. 'Do It Like That' also gets a brace of quite radical makeovers: the Original is all rolling beats, walking b-line and hands-in-the-air pianos, but Gus Paterson's 'Shake' and 'Warm' remixes again break out the 80s-sounding synths.
Review: More multi-artist action from Portugal's Oasis Records, an imprint founded in 2023 with the admirable aim of releasing "innovative music with personality". Imprint newcomers Passarines get things going with 'Floating', a gorgeous chunk of sun-soaked house warmth rich in spacey synth stabs, loved-up melodic motifs and sparkling keyboard riffs. That comes accompanied by a darker, heavier and more driving interpretation (the '10PM Blackbox Edit'). We also get two versions of label co-founder C4ASTRO's latest effort, 'Sentido Solar'. The original mix, a bumpy and high-octane house number smothered in tswicted acid motifs and bold piano stabs, comes accompanied by a chunky, thickset tech-house rework courtesy of Martin Tonic.
Review: We all need of bit of cool when the weather heats up, and the latest from Portuguese duo KL4USTRO - already famed for the fabulous parties they throw in Lisbon - has it by the lorryload. It's deep house delivered with a light touch, a twist of disco and a spidery live bass that holds the whole thing together and ensures it doesn't blow away in the warm breeze. The tracks reflect the duo's "deep wish for positive thoughts" and they do their best to keep the friendly, sunkissed vibes flowing throughout. Imagine some classic French touch grooves that are happy to cruise along doing their own thing rather being too eager to grab the spotlight and you're half way there. Yes they can!
Review: Oasis Portugal co-founders C4STRO and Martim Tonic join forces with new collaborator (if it's not simply another alias for one or both of the pair) C4STRIM for this single-track release on their own label. 'Winter Sun Te' is a hard release to pin down stylistically but definitely sits somewhere in the electronic disco arena, being an uptempo affair that's driven along by insistent 4/4s and a hefty shuffling bassline while all manner of synth-y beeps 'n' squeaks do battle over the top. With no vocal to latch onto, an anthem-in-waiting it is not, but it'll keep warmed-up floors grooving along nicely.
Review: As far as we can make out, this appears to be the very first release from Portuguese producer KL4USTRO... which seems odd, because the grooves contained herein sound far too accomplished to be the work of a mere newbie! 'Under Control' will suit those who like their deep house on the more sophisticated and slightly leftfield side - or perhaps their nu-jazz and trip-hop on the dancier side? - as it tops understated, moody synths with a chopped 'n' looped, jazzy female vocal in a way that's vaguely reminiscent of Charles Webster's late 90s work with Shara Nelson as Presence. It might take a listen or two to sink it but this is a proper little gem.
Review: C4STRO, Klai, Martim Tonic & Lou de Melo launched their Oasis Music label a few months ago via a three-track, multi-artist missive. For release number two, they've repeated the exercise, with two rising stars joining C4STRO on the EP. His cut, 'Got 2 Feet', is a gradually growing deep house loop jam in which spacey sounding synth motifs, echoing melodic motifs and raw, weighty electronic bass wrap round a rolling, disco-tinged house groove. Ramboiage continues the hypnotic loop-jam theme on thickest, bass-heavy stomper 'Rebaldaria', while British producer VRRS reaches for the filters on glistening, seriously summery disco-house cut 'Dancing in the Groove'.
