Review: Already three releases strong on vinyl, Jonathan Burnip's One Day Wonder label enters the digital domain with an old-school flavoured release from its owner. Working under his usual Capracara guise, Burnip revisits the sound of Inner City and rave techno for the title track. Happy synth stabs collide with a bouncy groove and euphoric piano keys and some breathy vocal stabs for a good time techno track. "Blue Balloon" is more contemporary sounding and sees Burnip cleverly combining a stepping rhythm with tough kicks, but the wired vocal sample are reminiscent of Green Velvet at his laughing gas-deranged heights.

Review: As the excellent Kern series from Tresor hits its second installment via DJ Hell, so the welcome vinyl sampler drops with some rare gems lovingly reissued for a fresh set of ears. Jonas Kopp's "X" sounds as taut and deadly as ever, displaying the true meaning of minimalism across a barren soundscape, while Capracara's utterly sexy acid house jam "Flashback '86" shows just how erotic a 303 bassline can be. Old classic "Bliss" by Halogen gets a modern revamp from DJ Hell himself, creating a functional thud with ample tripped-out techno elements present in fine slithers for an elegant finish.

Review: Comeme's latest release offers tripped out, psychedelic house at its finest. "Shake" by Cowboy Rhythmbox is like an update on 90s US house, its muscular drums, dubby bassline and percussive licks housing a strangely infectious call and response vocal. "Quiero Bailar" by Sano is built from similar elements - only this time it's a sassy, sexy Spanish vocal that's pitted against stirring strings and hammering drums. The title track, a collaboration between Capracara and The District Union, opts for a different approach, with a searing bass underpinning eerie synths and trippy 303 riffs. DJs Pareja's "Tacha" is in the same general category, with huge, whooshing filters and a pulsing, acid-layered bassline providing the impetus. Highly recommended.

Review: Capracara's "House Of Dolls" was one of Unknown To The Unknown's finest tracks last year, and here it gets a reworking from library music and soundtrack specialist Jonny Trunk. The hookup, we can only assume, came through Burnip's appreciation of slasher movie soundtracks, and the result is as out there as you could imagine - stripping the radiophonic bleeps from the original, Trunk leaves only an echo of the original's melody and adds some acoustic samples to glue the remix together. Propelled by nothing other than a simple kick drum, it's what you might imagine a music concrete version of house music to sound like.
