Review: The fact that the first track here is entitled 'Italians & Spacemen' should give you a pretty good idea what to expect from the rest of the EP: we're esconced firmly in Italo territory here, with Moroder-like basslines, Carpenter-esque sci-fi synths and analogue drum machine beats very much in evidence throughout. Look to Hyboid and Discobeton if it's faithful pastiche of the original early 80s Italo sound you're after, Daniel Monaco & Futuristant for a more late 80s-ish update or Captain Mustache if you want to be dragged into the present with hints of techno, footwork and electro.

Review: Well, it's that time of year again when one of electronic music's finest labels presents another sonic soiree. Cologne powerhouse Kompakt serves up the 21st installment in their esteemed Total series featuring some the year's greatest hits and near misses, from their own roster and external artists but all curated in its distinct aesthetic throughout. Label staples such as Jurgen Paape appear with the balmy summer allure of "La Guitarra Romantica", label co-head Michael Mayer with the entrancing dancefloor drama of "Happy" and of course Voigt & Voigt on the paranoid afterhours minimal house of "Nicht Mein Job". Elsewhere, there's the ever reliable John Tejada making the mandatory appearance with the chilled contemplative beats of "Spectral Progressions", the always impressive Jonathan Kaspar being the label's best sound ambassador on the the deep techno epic "Von Draussen", the return of Gui Borrato on the glassy-eyed and bittersweet pop-inflections of "Wake Up" and newcomer Nicky Elisabeth with "Celeste" - which gets a slinky and hypnotic rework by the legend Roman Fluegel.

Review: Originally released at the tail end of last year, Frederic De Carvalho aka Captain Mustache's Indigo Memories ended Bedrock's fantastic year with a bang. Selected tracks from the Parisian artist's long-player are remixed here for your pleasure, from the euphoric elevation of veteran Frenchman Kiko's rework of "Andromeda", Zoo Brazil's deeply evocative recreation of "Blue Ciel", Marc de Pulse's slinky and hypnotic reinterpretation of "Midnight Man" goes down a dark disco tip and finally Speakwave gives the vocal-driven cut "Catch Me" a deep down and dirty restyle.

Review: Captain Mustache's return to Kompakt with The Super Album marks a triumphant reunion with the label after his 2021 single "Everything" - and other releases for Bordello A Parigi, Permanent Vacation and Bedrock. This talented French producer in recent editions has collaborated with luminaries like Chicks on Speed, Arnaud Rebotini, to even Amanda Lear - with the album taking on a super voyage of its own. From the poetic club banger "About Love" to the deep techno pulsations of "Laser Me", The Super album combines a dancefloor-focused narrative, delving into electro, driving techno, with moments of melancholic beauty that include the arpeggios of "Everything" and the Dopplereffekt-inspired "Galaxian Symbiosis." Overall, it delivers a dense, hypnotic, and brilliant pop journey that moulds your body into evocative new shapes for the dancefloor.

Review: Captain Mustache's 2023 set 'The Super Album' - a conceptual treat designed to capture in music "a whole day for the party people" - returns in remixed form, with a trio of artists delivering takes on their favourite cuts from the LP. Kadosh steps up first, brilliantly re-framing Speakwave collaboration 'About Love' is a house-tempo chugger rich in moody dark-room electronics, throbbing electronic bass and razor-sharp lead lines, before Whitesquare re-imagines Chicks On Speed hook-up 'Shifting Basslines' as a saucer-eyed slab of nostalgic piano-house/acid house fusion - all addictive bass, sparkling keyboard riffs and colourful synthesiser arpeggio lines. Finally, Third Culture races towards rave dancefloors with a thunderous and pleasingly raw take on the Arnaud Rebotini-sporting 'I Love Watching U'.
