Review: These two tracks first came out as a vinyl-only release at the tail end of 2019, and were getting mucho support from the likes of Danny Krivit and Kenny Dope until Covid came along and put the kibosh on the club scene for the next couple of years. So now, with the pandemic out of the way, they're back, with Dimitri From Paris giving us two new takes on the jazz-funk inspired 'Doing Our Own Thing' while Casbah 73 himself reworks 'To Be Free', apparently using a bunch of stems he'd forgotten about from the first time around. If organic, soulful disco and jazz-funk are your bag, this is a must.

Review: It's been over 15 years since this writer was one of 100 or so who gathered in a sweaty, low-raftered Amsterdam basement to witness the live debut of Dutch funk and disco hopefuls Kraak & Smaak. Since then, the young pretenders have gone on to become true elder statesmen of the scene - which is another way of saying that you just KNOW the quality bar on this latest collection of contemporary disco, funk and boogie grooves is going to be set high. There's no room here to go into all 24 tracks one-by-one, but with contributions from the likes of Ben Gomori, Flevans and Hotmood alongside a host of more up-and-coming names, suffice to say lovers of the aforementioned styles will not be in the least bit disappointed.

Review: After a run of releases on LoveMonk, Oliver Stewart AKA Casbah 73 transfers to Kraak & Smaak's Boogie Angst label. The headline attraction here is undoubtedly the two J Kriv reworks of recent single 'Let's Invade The Amazon', a Strata East-meets-Nu Genea inspired live jazz-funk and soul workout that the Razor N Tape co-founder has remodelled in his own image. He delivers a fantastic, full vocal remix that peppers a squelchy nu-disco bassline and disco drums with all manner of live instrumentation and evocative synth sounds, before delivering an arguably even better 'Jungle Dub' that's naturally a little more stripped-back and spaced out. We'd also advise checking the brilliant 'Disco Mix' of 'Javari Takedown', a deep, percussive and tropical dancefloor workout that's as energetic, weighty and inspired as they come.

Review: Oli Stewart dons his Casbah 73 guise again and returns to Lovemonk with a second EP of soul-flecked goodness. His style - a peculiar but highly attractive mix of deep house, classic soul, broken beat, jazz and wide-eyed Balearica - guarantees a selection of tracks that are far from predictable. Opener "If You're Leaving (Part 1 & 2)" is a great example, moving from shuffling, soul-flecked 4/4 shuffler to sparse broken beat bomb in under 7 minutes. Elsewhere, "All Night Long" turns a forgotten soul gem into an atmospheric chunk of baggy deepness, "Too Cool to be Careless" sounds like the results of a smoky, late night studio jam session, and "I Want A Lot" is a particularly tasty chunk of disco-soul/deep house fusion.
