Cologne house music heroes Blank & Jones teamed up with emerging talent from Hamburg Cassara - who remixed "Give It To Me" featuring Emma Brammer's sexy vocals. It was great in its own right, but with X-Press 2 main man and all round house music legend Ashley Beedle on the remix: you really can't go wrong! The main remix is deep disco house, worked to perfection. Then there is a handy extended mix ("North Street") that works that lush symphonic arrangement into something more dramatic and evocative. Finally the "North Street dub" does exactly what it says on the tin for those of you not so keed on Brammer's vocals, but we're still a fan. The London songstress can also be found providing her golden voice on recent hits by Run SQ and Satin Jackets.
Here's something of a surprise: an EP on Running Back jointly produced by veteran German house producer Boris Dlugosch and rising star Cassara. The inter-generational duo has put together a set of tracks that veers closer to Italo-disco and cheery Balearic goodness than the funk-fuelled peak-time house that Dlugosch is often associated with. Our highlight is probably "Nightflight", a pleasingly baggy concoction that wraps alien melodies and vintage synthesizer motifs around a sparse drum machine groove. That said, opener "Traveller", which sounds like a cross between Electra's 1982 classic "Feels Good (Carrots & Beats)" and lightly bouncy house, and sparkling Italo-disco-meets-Daft Punk throb-job "Intervox" are also rather good.
