Review: It's always a pleasant thing to see a new Dansu Discs creation land in the store, with this latest offering from Cheval being another gorgeous arrangement to take in. We begin with the floaty pad lines and catchy vocal chops of 'Afterparty', leading into both the smooth, summer-laden organ harmonies of 'My Love My Kisses' and unpredictable vocal scatters of 'Put Your Faith In Me', again ticking all the boxes for the summer season. From here, we dive into a field of moogy pulses and constantly altering drumscapes in 'Keep Hitting', followed closely by the unorthodox vocal chops and super electronic percussive sweeps of 'Burning Out These Fires', switching up the general mood once again. Finally, 'Bounce With Me' gives us the final leap, doused in minimal techy flavour to round off the project with a classy touchdown.

Review: The joy of the digital download editions of the DJ Kicks series is not so much the included DJ mix - which, of course, is invariably excellent - but the accompanying full-length, DJ friendly tracks gathered by that edition's selector, in this case Elevate Berlin record store owner (and fine producer) Cinthie Christl. Her mostly club-friendly selections are little less than superb, moving from driving, organ-and-bass-rich U.S-style house (Terrence Parker, Niles Cooper, Sandil, her own exclusive 'Organ (DJ Kicks)') and life-affirming piano-house (Ruff Stuff), to deep two-step (Camion Bazar), slamming techno-funk (Anil Aras), dusty techno (Adriyano), deep breakbeat wooziness (Ben Hauke) and deep, dreamy acid jack ('Anna Wall'). In other words, it's a blindingly good selection - and Cinthie's DJ mix is wildly entertaining, too.

Review: It may have been a pretty rubbish year in general, but Midnight Riot has done its best to keep us entertained via a wealth of disco and boogie-centric EPs. If you missed out on many of the label's 2020 treats, don't worry, because they've gathered together the best of their recent output on this epic compilation. Drawing on original nu-disco, revivalist disco, feel-good house, synth-heavy boogie sounds and gently tooled-up edits, highlights are predictably plentiful. Our picks include the summery soulful house goodness of 'Nothing But the Music (Hotevilla Mix)' by Platinum City, the nu-boogie brilliance of Qwestlife's remix of 'Savage' by Tommy Glasses, the loopy disco-house joy of Mottes 'The Horse Ride' and Yam Who's 'Full Vocal Mix' of Sam Shelley's sunshine disco number 'Groove It'.

Review: When it comes to celebratory, life-affirming musical positivity, you can't beat Midnight Riot's ongoing "Disco Made Me Do It" compilation series, which gathers together a mixture of re-edits, reworks and original productions from the label's vast roster of artists. At 24 tracks deep it's a bit of an epic, though we can happily confirm that the quality threshold remains impressively high throughout. Our current favourites include the Redux Inc re-edit of Casa Blanco's P-funk flavoured hip-wiggler, "Funk & Dub With You", the rushing, piano-powered house bounce of "Got Me" by Ladies on Mars, label boss Yam Who's sparkling nu-boogie revision of Phil Jaimes' "My Sensitivity" and the deep, groovy '80s soul flex of Chevals' "Thank You For The Ride".

Review: Going by the volume of tracks on show, it would be fair to say that Masterworks Music's "Bag of Tricks" is not a little handbag, but more like a Mary Poppins style bottomless carpetbag. The label's latest rummage through its seemingly endless contents has been a successful one, with the 20 showcased cuts including a wealth of fine fusions of disco, house, boogie, electro and 80s soul. It's uniformly dancefloor-focused, with highlights including the Afro-house/disco-tech fusion of JB Dizzy, the driving, spaced-out disco-house grooves of Mike Woods, the loose-limbed, off-the-wall edits of Chewy Rubs, the sweet disco-soul bounce of RocknRolla Soundsystem, the delay-laden synth sing-along styles of Rayko and the hot-to-trot brilliance of Downunder Disco.

Review: The second release on Homage comes from Chevals, and once again the vibe is quintessential deep house infused with more than a little soul stew. "See You When I Git My Heart Broken" has funk licks aplenty to keep the party popping, while "Please Don't" sees that as some kind of challenge to up the ante with even more sassy samples and sizzling strings. "Tres Racas" finds the Chevals getting a little more choppy in the drum department, and then "Big Man" finishes the EP off with a raucous African atmosphere to set the club alight.
