Review: It's 2024 which means it's time pay your tributes to the trance Gods once again with some newly re-upped versions of Chicanes all-time classic "Offshore". Unquestionably one the the most important and influential trance productions of all time, this latest addition to the series brings with it an orchestral touch, with, first of all, the 'Symphonic Rehearsal mix' - baroque in its reverberation and as if kissed by some Deep Forest breaks of that French new age '90s sound. Secondly we get a pulsating DC Symphonic Rehearsal mix with its techno beat, progressive bassline and subtle dub tinges for a classical and reduced version that doesn't skimp on the original's divine string section. Such a release wouldn't be replete without the all time, seminal, original either.
Review: Armada Music 20 Years Classics pays homage to dance music's rich history and aims to educate a new generation of fans about the artists who shaped the genre. There's classics galore on this one as you'd expect, with several bangers by label chief Armin Van Burren, in addition to seminal anthems such as Joe Smooth's "Promised Land", Inner City's "Good Life" (remastered), Chez Damier's "Can You Feel It" (New York extended dub) and Olav Basoski's "Waterman" (extended mix), as well as appearances by newer artists like ANOTR, Patrick Topping and Jan Blomquist.
Review: Armada Music - Miami 2023 takes over Magic City right at the start of the festival season. With 40 tracks, this album is all fans require to supercharge their Miami experience. It features artists such as D.O.D. with the infectious funky house anthem "Set Me Free", legend Armin Van Buuren with the melodic euphoria of "Dayglow" featuring Stuart Crichton on vocals, as well as AVIRA with the deep and sensual cut "Dancing Alone" feat. XIRA, Kidnap with the glassy-eyed and bittersweet "Start Again" (Model Man Remix) and Lufthaus nailing that classic prog house sound of old on a remix of "Who We Are" by Enamour & Warung.
Review: At 14 tracks large trance master Chicane's eighth studio album has arrived in the shape of Everything We Had To Leave Behind. Maintaining an uplifting & melancholic approach to his production, Chicane's classic trance chords are as always undeniable throughout this latest work while still touching on that late-90s-to-mid-2000s pioneering sound. The LP brings with it the Ibiza sunset croons of vocalist Joseph Aquilina (Goldfish) who's voice more often than not challenges the timbres of one Chris Martin. Exploring various drum patterns across numbers like the breakbeat "Make You Stay" or the skipping UK funky of "Sailing", get your housier, pop and balearic trance from "One Foot In The Past, One Foot In The Future" and "Hello, Goodbye". For more classically inclined fans, those trusted bouncy chords, breaths and beats can be found all the more in "Juno", "Don't Look Down", the album's beatless title-track, and exclusive Chicane cover version of Bon Iver's "8 (Circle)".
