Review: This one's a bit confusing, so bear with! 'For Your Love' was, of course, a 1965 single by mod/R&B faves The Yardbirds. In 1978, the song was covered inna disco stylee by Chilly, a multi-racial German group styled along similar lines to Boney M; then in 2005, Those Guys - Jay Steinhour and Teddy Douglas - sampled the Chilly version on a Basement Boys release called 'I Walk Alone'. Got that? Good, because in 2022 the Chilly label reissue the 1978 cut, but now (on two of the mixes, at least) mashed up with the Those Guys track that sampled it. Four rubs to choose from, but while their manes may be plaited slighly differently, all four ponies essentially pull off the same basic "squalling rock guitars + dance beats" trick.

Review: Audio Overload who have developed a reputation for going in all guns blazing, having released a string of releases over many years which don't play nice with your feelings. Now, they're launching the second part of their Jacked compilations series and it's top quality, with sounds that span a wide variety of styles, from rolling stuff to dirty naughtiness. 'Nuclear Inspectors' by Falco is definitely in the latter category and it's definitely one of the best on the release, with a cavernous bassline of spinning twirls and a pulsating epicentre that pushes out the rest of the track in a slick fashion. One to cop, this.

Review: We're not quite sure how Chilly manages to put out so many releases, to be honest, because they're just always on it. Always on a mix of labels, this time it's Audio Overload. The title track is refreshingly futuristic, creative synth work and stepping drum smacks forming archways of diving bass force, a joy to listen to and we'd imagine pretty devastating on the dancefloor. 'You' sees Chilly on more familiar territory - naughty jump up that makes you want to hit your nan. 'Forget Me' is different again, a pummelling, fluid back end laid out beneath a rolling set of drums. Yes mate!

Review: Dubstomp 2 Bass are the Birmingham based label that have one commitment and one commitment only: getting you out of your seat and onto the dancefloor. Chilly is their latest purveyor of pure heat and he's doing so over a two-tracker, the first of which is classic D2B: a gargling, subby bassline and unrelenting destruction in 170 form. 'Listen' is a tad more melodic but doesn't ease back on the weightiness, its big, soaring bass hits rising and falling all over the arrangement. Unreal.

Review: Dubstomp 2 Bass are the Birmingham based imprint of madmen who, day-in-day-out, push forth some of the vilest beats known to both the Midlands and the UK more broadly. Chilly is their latest alumni and, judging from this EP, he's graduating with a first in D&B studies. 'Unknown' is the standout tune from the album, a deep and dark roller that sits comfortably within current D&B trends and which hits harder than a train that's just gone off the rails, its knockout snare drum and monochromatic bassline effortlessly moving about the arrangement. 'No More' and 'System' are the naughty kids of the groups and they know it, whilst 'You Don't Know' is another vicious rolling little number. Cop this one.
