Review: Saxxon is one of the longest-serving members of the V Recordings camp, with music coming on all parts of Bryan Gee's umbrella movement. Time Is Right is coming on the main label and you can hear why, with a rich texture of sound that spans the whole spectrum of the music, from the rolling funk of 'Get Locked' to the dirty basslines of 'Higher', which also features Wednesday Amelia amongst some of the best sampling we've heard in ages. It's a classic V release that straddles that funky, dancefloor friendly sound that Bryan has done so much to push.

Review: There's something so, so nice about D&B that combines vocal loveliness with gully undertones, and that's exactly what KC and Christina Tamayo have done here. The title track starts off beautifully laid-back, with a simple piano line leading you in onto the rattling percussion and guttural, funky bassline. There's an old-school roughness to this that we're digging a lot. The flip is similar in its rough and tumble sonics, this time not dropping out of nowhere but slowly building itself up, the momentum finally releasing on the drop into a hail of energy and force. Tamayo sounds fantastic throughout, so shoutout to her, KC and the Innovate crew.

Review: Eighteen months and two cameos on Headz and Hospital since his last SGN:LTD soiree, west coast soul merchant Submorphics returns with four more moments of deep drum & bass clarity. The lead track that has that dusty sample feel that rolls with a loosely hewn restraint very similar to early 2000s Makoto or perhaps Calibre cuts. "Stratospheres" sees him team with US MC of the moment T.R.A.C for a cool roller that wouldn't have gone amiss on any Progression Sessions album. "Arcata" shows Submorphics's darker side with a S.P.Y-style cosmic stepper while Christian Tamayo brings serious soul and sensuality to the swooning synths of "Lost In The Lights". Think Riya and you're on the right track.
