Review: Frenchman Christopher Kah is up next on London's Food Music, following up great ones by Xpansions, Dom Rimini and Mak & Pasteman lately. An alumnus of labels such as International Deejay Gigolo, Planet Rouge and Cr2, Kah certainly has the credentials and he's definitely in fine form on the Call Of Jack EP. From the dub techno infused funky house cut that is the title track, fuelled by that legendary "Can You Feel It" sample, plus the uplifting and euphoric funky house thriller "Sun State" soon follows, and, in addition to this you're treated to a remix of it by label co-chief Shadow Child's Cream Terrace extended remix taking into slinky and hypnotic tech house territory.
Review: With a background in jazz and classical music, it's no surprise that Christopher Kah brings melodic flourishes and a sense of drama to his techno productions. Jahria is no exception and the title track resounds to sweeping melodies and the kind of crashing drums and percussion that you might expect to hear from an orchestra. "Bliss" revisits early 90s techno to combine a visceral bass-led groove with dramatic piano lines that swirl and shimmer over the arrangement as a ponderous vocal informs the audience that the 'future is now'. "Freak of Nature" is somewhat more reflective but equally distinctive as Kah conjures up mesmerising synths over crashing snares.
Review: This latest bumper-packed compilation from the mighty CR2 label is pretty much all you'll need to get yout through this summer season, if not the whole year! Yep the classic imprint has done it again, rounding up Todd Terry, label boss Mark Brown and the CR2 Allstars to each deliver sizzling summery mixes with a combined tracklist of 57 tunes! A selection of the many highlights includes the melancholy Italo disco vibes of "Epiphany (Copy Paste Soul mix)" by The Golden Boy, the nasty low-down jacker "Starfucker" by Audion, the techno lazer funk jam "Funky Tees(Tee's Freeze mix)" by Todd Terry himself and and the moody trance of Superpitcher's DJ Hell rework, "Je Regrette Everything".
