Review: Night Noise Music has decided to start a compilation series. Enitled "Night Noises" (we see what they did there), each volume will offer up previously unheard cuts from label stalwarts and guest artists they admire. There's plenty to set the pulse racing on this launch edition, from the gently bubbling acid lines and glistening guitar riffs of Tuiloxi's chugging dub disco opener ("Winter Afro Acid") and the druggy Italo-disco/proto-house flex of "Quirked" by Aimes, to the weighty and exotic disco pump of Jack Carel's Bollywood-inspired "Eastern Journey" and the throbbing cosmic disco psychedelia of Roe Deers' dark and pulsating "Prince". Superb stuff all told.

Review: Balearic-minded Leeds trio Clandestino (AKA Joe Morris, Nick Smith and Iain McBeath) has previously impressed via fine singles on Nein, Is It Balearic? and their own eponymous imprint. Predictably, this EP is another breezy beauty full of kaleidoscopic electronics, colourful synthesizers and audible smiles. "Another Horizon" is particularly potent, featuring as it does a mixture of clattering drum machine hits, high-grade TB-303 acid lines and sparkling synth-work. James Hadfield channels the spirit of the Italian dream house movement on his blissful accompanying remix. Elsewhere, "Quiet Storm" is presented in two contrasting versions: the proto-house/Chicago jack/Balearic fusion style original, and a typically cheery, electric piano-heavy Balearic disco re-rub from the reliable Pete Herbert.

Review: The second installment in the Sulk Magic series features more left of centre dance floor tracks. Freudenthal's "Rapax Apicem" sets the tone with an off-beat disco track that moves from detuned riffs into a gradual siren crescendo over a staccato rhythm. Kieran Holden's "3 Or Four' is a more conventional disco groover - albeit one laced in 303s - but it's only a brief break from the release's weird and wonderful sound. In:State pursues a tripped out acid direction on the aptly named "Spacer"; Dawad and Mokic's "Furious" is low-sling ebm workout and best of all, Clandestino's "Simpatico" sounds like a trippy take on Amnesia's new beat classic, "Ibiza".
