Review: Pure sonic sludge from the ever-evolving Cloaka. "Adapt" is a hip-hop speed bass affair with treacle-thick bass and a vibe that's not dissimilar to Tipper's most formative work. Label boss Liar backs up its anvil charms with a more tech-edged twist before we drop into three more originals. "Each & Every" is a spacious, paranoid affair as roomy half-steps provide a canvas for a series of strange stabby patterns while "Bandala" flips the vibes entirely with lush old school pads, loopy hip-hop-style vocal chops and a bass tone that's so rude you need your parents's permission to play it out.

Review: The newly founded Heretic imprint launches its catalogue with a collaborative effort by its main clan members in the form of a compilation. We don't know much about the respective artists, but what we can tell you is that they sure know how to construct some filthy UK bangers. Blame FR sets the gears into motion with "Fall Down", a rickety two-step number reminiscent of Hessle Audio's output. Harushi Clan's "Zulu" is a deeper, bass-pummelling number for the heads, Cloaka and Boxwork enter the dub territory on "Talk Some" thanks to some deranged horns, Barla's "Untitled" tune is the straightest lick yet and could go down a storm in any techno set and Circo's "Taxi" chucks in a seriously fat wobble bass amid minimalistic percussion and sci-fi atmospherics. Killer.

Review: Birmingham's Four40 have done it again. This time however, it's a compilation affair, featuring their most interesting artists. As per usual, the sounds are sparse and varied, held together only by their potent low-ends which really burst through on proper systems. Juno favourites Cloaka and Killjoy make an appearance, but there's plenty of quality from all corners of the throng. Review: Despite sharing its name with a Christian record label in the States, Birmingham's Four40 only really pray in one church, one with a soundsystem that boasts bone-rattling subs. Their latest signing, the mysterious Cloaka, is certainly all about the bass: this EP features bass so brutal and low it's positively subterranean. "Don't I Know You" features a low rolling bassline and eerie chants, "Booty Chatter" boasts harsh, stamping riddims and extra wobble on top, "Konkle" again centres around a hard, stamping kick but is more sparse and finally "Wuxi Riddim" is all about the voodoo beats.
