Masterworks Legends Vol 2
Various
Closed Paradise - "The Vision" - (8:11) 109 BPM
James Rod - "Stay Mine" - (5:58) 107 BPM
Review: The first "Masterworks Legends" compilation saw label boss Danny Worrall giving digital debuts to a whole host of previously vinyl-only cuts. We're not sure whether he's taken the same approach this time round, but the quality of the material remains pleasingly high. Beginning with Dr Packer's hot-to-trot revision of Kiu D's Blaxploitation disco workout "Dynamite", Worrall offers up a swathe of hypnotic, disco-tinged house head-nodders (Ooft's "I Am Love" being a glassy-eyed standout), tasty '80s electrofunk revisions (Woodhead, The Silver Rider, Coutel, his own '80s Child project), thumping disco club cuts (Natasha Kitty Kat, Kiu D, James Rod, Ponchartrain) and sparkling nu-disco box jams (Gradient Logic). If you're looking for more tried-and-tested treats to pep up your sets, you should add this to your cart right now.

Something Else
Cindy Goes To A Party - (5:42) 102 BPM
Review: A pleasingly varied deep house EP here that shows off the French crew's musical versatility nicely. 'What Else' opens proceedings, a lounge-y, laidback affair underpinned by a constantly surging bassline and topped with snatches of female conversation. That's followed by 'Cindy Goes To A Party', a slo-mo number with a blissed-out feel and a bizarre female vocal sample that sounds like it's been lifted from a old B&W movie. 'Dizzy Spell' then takes us into more uptempo, small-hours territory before the EP's closed out by the disco-tinged dancefloor romp that is 'Set It Out'.

Praise
Demon Avenue - (6:01) 108 BPM
Played by: FINGERMAN
Review: Praise is the first Fina release from Closed Paradise, a French producer previously best known for serving up tidy re-edits and reworks on Editorial, Kolour Ltd and Whiskey Disco. The producer's smooth nu-disco roots can be heard amongst the swirling synthesizer chords, tactile beats and mutilated Daft Punk synth lines of "Demon Avenue", while acid-flecked closer "Piece of Mind" is a successful attempt to fuse the saucer-eyed spirit of late '80s, warehouse-friendly house anthems and the synth-heavy bounce of 21st century European disco. Best of all, though, is opener "Praise", an ultra-dreamy, ultra-deep chunk of sunrise house brilliance that's guaranteed to melt even the stoniest of hearts.

Review: Orbiting the Sun, just near Venus, is a little known planet called Closed Paradise. When not residing there, this disco-chic producer resides in the more earthly domain of France. Editorial have scored a real coup here by signing him up for this sizzling four-track outing that covers thick, syrupy disco-house ("Bad Girl"), majestic ecstasy-house ("Asymmetric"), thumping French Touch boogie ("Dice") and the utterly sublime synth-moods of "Filtered Light". C'est Bon!

The Socialites - "Only This Moment" (feat Tesla Boy - Sasha Anastasov remix) - (8:19) 105 BPM
Review: With their new-ish label Young Adults, Leeor Brown and David Fisher's aim is to source the best underground house and nu-disco being made across the globe. This has led them to releasing a new mini mix, entitled House Slippers, and here are the eight tracks featured in the their full, unmixed glory. It's an impressive selection that covers such territory as the Michael McDonald fronting Junior Boys-isms of "Only This Moment", the cloud nine electro-house of "Maybe Snakes (Permanent Vacation remix)", the retro French Touch loops of "Fake Bitches" and the synth-laden proto-acid of "Just Wear It".
