Review: Cocktail Party Effect aka Charlie Baldwin returns to Tectonic after 2020's acclaimed self-titled album. As befits both the label and the artist's catalogues, the title track is dominated by punishing bass. The low-end kicks like a mule through the arrangement's hazy textures, erupting sporadically and menacingly. On "Sun Down", Cocktail Party Effect opts for a more dubbed out approach. The drums swing lazily, hazy vocals reverberate in an irresistible manner and the whole thing is tied together with rolling, layered percussion. It makes for a blissed out counter point to the title track's system levelling bass power - and a powerful testament to Baldwin's diverse sonic palette.

Review: London-based, Australian-born sonic alchemist HAAi is called up for her instalment of DJ-Kicks. At 17 tracks large, including three exclusive numbers from the artist herself, it's a mix taking inspiration from techno through electronic pop and the intense sound design of acts like Pan Sonic. Meticulously woven into a euphoric narrative that makes its way through unexpected BPM shifts, dramatic accelerations, and liminal transitions - it's tracklist alone should be enough to pique your interest with rare cuts from the likes of The Blessed Madonna, Agoria and Perc, to John Selway, Manny Dee and Cocktail Party Effect. And fun fact, it follows HAAi's 2022 album, "Baby, We're Ascending".

Review: Berlin-based Brit Cocktail Party Effect incorporates the bass-driven sounds of his native underground scene with the techno sounds of the German capital which he now calls home. His latest release comes courtesy of London's Nervous Horizon titled "Fixing The Roof", a body bashing industrial-edged onslaught. Elsewhere on the EP, the mentalist broken beat techno of "Safety Button" remains on a psychedelic tip, the glitched-out junglism of "767" keeps you rolling and the subterranean low-end theory of "Gecko Slide" retains a menacing intensity.

Review: The Nomine Sound affiliated Cocktail Party Effect is back. This British born, Berlin based producer has previously served up some fascinating perspectives on post UK bass sounds hybridized with the technoid sounds of the German capital since his move. He also inaugurated his promising new imprint Fox & Hound last year. His new one for Pinch's Cold Recordings, a label focused on "new movements in the ever-evolving UK hardcore continuum" sees him launch a second missive on the imprint, beginning with the violently splintered dub techno deconstruction of "Lemons", the seething street level deep dubstep journey "Quite" and a right banger in the form of "Flat Football". This industrial strength stepper will appeal to fans of brutalist sounds as typically heard on Pinch's other esteemed imprint Tectonic.

Review: New Berlin based label Fox and Hound is a diffusion imprint of the established Nomine Sound, Backlash and TEAR Recording labels. Here they serve up their inaugural release, which brings experimentation into the leftfield from relative a newcomer: Brit in Berlin Cocktail Party Effect. Following up a release on Pinch's Cold Recordings, this young modular buff shows us there is plenty of exploration to go with, on this "idiosyncratic two step adventure". Moreover, it features a familiar UK bass feel but with an explicit character of its own. Featuring the brooding and low-end emphasised Bristolian bounce of "Donkey Fight" followed by the seething and atmospheric roller "Black Snow".

Review: Cold Recordings are proud to now bring you Cocktail Party Effect. Eric Baldwin, the Berlin based British producer, shows off his colours here with a diverse, but always dancefloor savvy EP with four killer cuts. The title track "Battered" kicking things off with a glitching set of electronics and setting a curious mood, before dropping into a crazed rhythmical explosion. "OOYFM" takes things into more typical UK bass music territory, rolling out techno ingredients, with a grimey bassline and broken-beat dynamics that also hint at UK garage influences. On the second half of the EP you'll find "Intens" taking a stance that sits somewhere between dancehall and techno, rolling and smashing its way as it goes along. The EP closes with the moody, bass driven and percussively expressive track "I Kno3".

Review: Nomine Sound unleashes yet more forward-thinking dubstep tactics on us, and with a new artists for us to get familiar with, too. Label head Nomine himself steps up alongside newcomer Cocktail Party Effect, and the two offer three devilish cuts each that'll make the bass purists more than happy. Also, we have the legendary MC Bassman with his singular jungle swagger over Nomine's first tune, the break-heavy roller called "Run Darker". This is followed by "No", a heavy digi dub kinda lick with a sci-Fi approach, and the heavier, more anthem "Nomine's Heartbeat". Cocktail Party Effect starts off with the leading "Fist Bump", a tight bundle of intricate percussion and tribalism, then moving to the murkier dubstep waters of "Yea", and ending up on the more jittery beat frenzy that is "Road Trip". Heavy.
