Review: UK's Jack Bowditch has been moving through the dance music circuit over the years now and has found himself with a new alter ego in Collate. He teams up with established Romanian producers Balaur and Sakdat here for the riveting Night Acolyte EP on Flying Muse. The trio team up for some proper basic trance induction on the title track, Bowditch flies solo on the dirty and dark UK afterhour sounds of "Under Sounds" and the tough rolling peak time tech house of "New Pockets". Finally, the gang teams up one more time on the rolling and ethereal evocations of "Penumbra Tunii".
Review: Hot on the heels of their tech-tinged collaboration on Vandalizm Musique, Collate and Ballaur join forces again on Ukrainian imprint Manuscript. They're in fine form, too, with epic opener "Spinning Voices" offering a bubbly, undulating journey through hybrid deep house/tech-house pastures full to the brim with subtle acid lines, spacey chords, dreamy pads and looped female vocal samples. There's a similarly warm and hazy feel to second cut "Spictrum", where a nagging bassline and bumpin' beats come wrapped in sunrise-ready electronics, toasty chords and more cut-up old school vocal samples. Throw in some refreshingly positive synthesizer flourishes of the kind once found in Italian dream house records and you've got another tried-and-tested winner.
