Review: Frankly, there's nothing "basic" about this wonderful debut single from Ireland's Colm K. From the first few seconds of his original, featuring the superb jazz vocals of Elaine Dowling, you'll hear the skills just poring into your ears. A slow, nu-soul/trip-hop beat fleshed out with varying samples working together to form a delicate and highly memorable melody, Dowling's swooping vocals are the icing on this delicious cake. Colm drops a more synthed-up boogie/nu-soul version on the flip, with his "Uptown" mix also rampantly impressing, while further mixes from Part-Time Heroes, Jugoe and Dhundee make this one very mighty release indeed.

Review: Nu-soul Irishman Colm K is back in business with some more of his classy and classic sounding jams. Things begin with him making the impossible sound possible: "The Attic" making 80s wine bar funk sound cool. Elsewhere he's on a deeper, less showy tip: "Nothing" being a hazy 90s memory on loop, "Good Fridays" add a bit of shuffle and swing to the formula, and finally "Spaced" incorporates a vintage RnB vibe to his already impressive repertoire.

from $1.93
Review: Colm K has been delivering occasional chunks of soul-fired dance music since the dawn of the decade, variously touching on deep house, hip-hop, soul, dub and jazz. That deep-rooted eclecticism is naturally at the heart of the Heights EP, which marks his first appearance on All City. Opener "Seeing" is a jaunty peak-time delight, with twinkling electronics and jazzy chords riding a tough-but-bouncy tropical deep house groove, while water is a hazy and fragrant stroll through Jazzmatazz style instrumental hip-hop territory with added electrofunk synth solos. He doffs a cap towards the masters of deep, jazzy and soulful deep house on bass-heavy shuffler "Affinity" before booking a one-way trip to somewhere hot and sunny via the languid downtempo delight that is closer "Summary".
