Review: Following some great EPs by the likes of Alex Aguayo, Silicodisco and label chief David Ponziano, Penrose kickstarts back into action with a terrific new one this week by Calypso Records" Inigo Vontier, in collaboration with Concret - the duo comprised of Diego Angelico Escobar and Q-pha. The Mexican trio serve up a tunneling expedition through the more psychedelic fringes of indie-dance on "Kiodo" which receives a rework by the one-and-only Lauer up next, taking you on a neon-lit night drive. Then submit to the hypnotic polyrhythms of dark disco chugger "Buconero", it too getting a re-rub this time by Javi Redondo - who delves deep into 303 territory.

Review: Wonder Stories' latest recruits, Concret, are no newcomers to the world of mind-altering dancefloor workouts. The Italian duo's latest EP follows on from impressive outings on Nein, Phisica and Toy Tonics. Here they serve up two original tracks to tickle the taste buds. First, they wrap sci-fi electronics and alien synthesizers around a slipped Italo-disco groove on "Andata", before revving up the arpeggio lines for the equally throbbing "Ritomo", a glassy-eyed nu-disco treat that boasts some particularly epic breakdowns and build-ups. Rodion adds a little New York proto-house flavour and some wonderfully trippy electronic touches on his high quality remix of that track, while Timothy "Heretic" Clerkin ups the psychedelic ante on a pulsating, acid-fired tweak of "Andata".

Review: To celebrate hitting 20 releases, Wonder Stories has decided to put out the label's first compilation. Wonder Buds is largely made up of arguably overlooked back catalogue highlights, but also includes a handful of previously unreleased tracks to appease regular label-watchers. There's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the jostling Italo-disco/nu-disco fusion of Pop District's remix of Steve Cook's "Notice Me" and the boogie-influenced cosmic disco chug of DJ Rocca's Aimes rework (the brilliant "Notice Me"), to the foreboding psychedelic disco-chug of Curses' "Brains Bones Blood" and the acid-fired pulse of Los Fugazzi's "Paralel" [sic]. Oh, and the saucer-eyed, Balearic-inspired nu-disco dreaminess that is Mighty Mouse's wonderful remix of Air Zaire's "Love '94".
